A Convention Message from Cheryl Lancaster

After months of planning, it’s hard to believe our annual Convention is coming to a close. The agenda provided thoughtful discussion, insightful planning tips, awards, and—of course—networking! From Matt Light speaking about his foundation that gives at-risk kids the opportunity to use the outdoors to learn and grow, to Dr. Samuel Jones showing us how to reach new heights, to Andy Janning giving us insight into achieving it all while avoiding burnout, to all of the incredible presentations in between, this truly was an unforgettable Convention.

But that’s not all. On Thursday, attendees had a chance to bid on items in support of two important credit union initiatives—CULAC and the Campaign for Ending Hunger. Both auctions were a big success and we look forward to reporting the final fundraising numbers soon. Congratulations to all the winning bidders—there were some great items up for grabs!

While Convention participants are used to seeing a ballroom full of their credit union family, this year’s event was smaller. However, it was just as impactful. Every year, Convention is meaningful, but this year especially because it was filled with so many emotions. We’ve overcome a lot since our 2019 gathering! I personally want to thank all of the League and Synergent staff who worked so hard on the event, and you for your participation and for adhering to our COVID-protocols. Keeping you safe was our highest priority!

It was wonderful to see so many of you in-person, but also to have those who could not make the trip to Portland join us remotely. This is the first time we’ve ever live-streamed Convention and this milestone is a testament to the resilience and agility we have exhibited as an industry over the past year-and-a-half. No matter how you chose to connect, the inspiring moments hit home and will motivate us in the weeks ahead.

As we work through the uncertainty surrounding the Delta variant, I know we will continue to do everything we can to support one another, and of course, our members! No matter what the future holds, we’ll face challenges and find solutions together, just as this Convention has reminded us to do.

I already look forward to the League’s 2022 Annual Meeting and Convention and am optimistic that it will be a big, bold celebration.
