CU News & Events July Edition


Summer is in full swing and so is credit union activity! During the month of July, credit unions were busy hosting fundraisers, sponsoring concerts, and supporting local businesses. Here is a snapshot of what some of our credit unions were up to last month:

  • Acadia FCU disbursed over $18,000 to 14 food pantries and food assistance programs in northern and eastern Maine.
  • Atlantic FCU teamed up with the Biddeford Saco Chamber of Commerce to host a business insurance seminar on July 15.
  • Bangor FCU announced it will be opening a new full-service location in Hancock County this fall!
  • Planning got underway at Brewer FCU for their disc golf tournament! The team has been busy getting ready for their special event, which is happening in September.
  • On July 30, Capital Area FCU hosted its annual hot dog barbecue to benefit Special Olympics Maine and the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Casco FCU delivered a box of personal care items to the Buxton Food Co-op to help their neighbors in need.
  • On July 2, any Monty Moose club member who visited a Central Maine FCU branch received a free book and was entered in a drawing to win a free e-reader and a $100 gift card.
  • Popcorn Fridays are back! Changing Seasons FCU has resumed this fun tradition of handing out free bags of popcorn to members who stop by the branch.
  • Coast Line CU members looking to quickly reach the credit union or have a question answered can use the  “Chat Now” function on their website.
  • Community CU’s Turner branch held a “checks parade” on July 10, delivering donations to support their community partners, including Auburn PAL, Greene Baptist Church Food Pantry, High Street Congregational Church Pantry, Leeds Community Church Pantry, and Turner Food Pantry.
  • Connected CU collected items including coloring books, crayons, games, and more for the Maine Children’s Home.
  • cPort CU introduced their summer interns. The credit union is hosting three interns this summer to work in their Finance, Operations, and Marketing Departments. Welcome, Marcus, Charlie, and Olivia!
  • Cumberland County FCU was nominated by the Windham Eagle for an Eagle Choice Award in the Bank/Credit Union category. Congratulations!
  • Dirigo FCU sponsored the Root Cellar’s Summer School Program for children in grades K-5.
  • Downeast CU’s “Fun Squad” coordinated a festive Christmas in July event for staff.
  • In its summer newsletter, Eastmill CU shared a helpful article explaining the effect of hard and soft inquiries on a credit score.
  • Evergreen CU served as a sponsor of the Valley Street Concert Series, which kicked off on July 15!
  • Five County CU raised over $3,500 for the UMaine Center on Aging’s Senior Companion Program. This special program was selected as the credit union’s “charity of the quarter.”
  • Gardiner FCU made a $600 donation to the Tiger Food Pantry at Gardiner High School.
  • Infinity CU employees at their Bangor branch got new headshots taken by Justine Johnson Photography.
  • KSW FCU conducted a raffle to benefit Special Olympics Maine and the Campaign for Ending Hunger. The lucky raffle winner will enjoy a ticket package to Funtown/Splashtown.
  • KV FCU ran a referral promotion last month. By referring a friend to the credit unions, members received $25 and were entered to a grand prize drawing of $500!
  • Lincoln Maine FCU took time last month to highlight some of their employees on its Facebook page—giving their followers some insight on the credit union’s exceptional team.
  • Lisbon Community FCU held a special promotion during the month of July. Members earned $25 for referring a friend to the credit union, and their friends also earned $25 once they opened an account.
  • On July 17, Maine Highlands FCU held a yard sale at their Guilford office to benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Maine Savings FCU launched a new digital banking experience for members. The team at the credit union spent July educating members about the benefits the new digital banking platform will deliver.
  • Maine State CU made a donation of used computer equipment to the Augusta Rotary Club. The Rotary will use the equipment to help seniors better communicate with family members.
  • Midcoast FCU team members have been busy working on a garden at the credit union’s Freeport branch. The first pepper of the season has already been spotted in the garden!
  • Monmouth FCU posted a blog on its website to educate members about adding value to their home. The blog contained a helpful list of dos and don’ts to help members better direct their investment.
  • New Dimensions FCU was recognized as a Best in Maine credit union by Forbes.
  • Northeast CU was not only recognized as a Best in New Hampshire credit union by Forbes—it earned the number one spot on the list!
  • NorState FCU is sponsoring Madawaska’s Music in the Park series taking place on Thursdays at 6 pm throughout the summer at Bicentennial Park.
  • OTIS FCU presented a $50 gift certificate to Meg’s Sweets in Farmington to Roni P. on July 15.
  • Oxford FCU celebrated Smokin’ Dave’s Backyard BBQ & Grill by recognizing it as its July Business of the Month. Oxford FCU members received 10% off when dining at Dave’s last month.
  • Penobscot County FCU both sponsored and participated in the Wicked Muddy Mainer Obstacle Race in Orrington on July 10.
  • PeoplesChoice CU announced their 2021 Maine Merits Scholarship recipients. In total, $6,000 was awarded to four young members.
  • Sabattus Regional CU held their Christmas in July fundraiser for the Maine Children’s Home, where they accepted donations of family board games, coloring books, and crayons.
  • So far in 2021, Saco Valley CU has reported 329 volunteer hours through the CUs Share for ME form.
  • Seaboard FCU published their quarterly newsletter in July, where they highlighted their scholarship recipients, Banzai, Zoe’s Club, and more.
  • Members of Sebasticook Valley FCU now have the option of choosing their preferred home screen photo on the SVFCU website, making for a unique browsing experience!
  • The County FCU hosted a coloring contest at the Maine Potato Blossom Festival. The winners received bags of goodies and CU swag!
  • Town & Country FCU was recognized as a Best in Maine credit union by Forbes.
  • Trademark FCU dedicated a garden at its Augusta office in memory of longtime employee Jennifer Gordon.
  • University CU was not only recognized as a Best in Maine credit union by Forbes—it earned the number one spot on the list!
  • Winthrop Area FCU featured the Online Financial Fitness Fair within the Education section of their website, with intentions of helping young members become fiscally fit.
