CU News & Events – May Edition


Annual meetings, yard sales, and donations to support summer meal programs were just a few ways Maine credit unions stayed engaged in their communities last month. Here are some of the activities credit unions participated in:

  • Acadia FCU awarded Jill Caron of Fort Kent a $100 Visa gift card for attending its annual meeting on May 18.
  • Atlantic FCU helped Full Plates Full Potential fund grants to support summer meal programs coordinated by Midcoast Hunger Prevention and the Biddeford School Department.
  • Bangor Federal provided the Bangor School Department with a donation to support its summer meal program.
  • Brewer FCU celebrated Member Appreciation Day by providing free hot dogs at its branch.
  • Capital Area FCU announced that Eli Cummings was promoted to Loan Officer. Congratulations, Eli!
  • Casco FCU held a Google review contest and awarded the winner with a $50 gift card to Gorham House of Pizza.
  • Central Maine FCU held a supply drive to benefit the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society.
  • Changing Seasons FCU welcomed Melanie Bean to their team. Melanie is the credit union’s new Member Service Associate.
  • Coastline CU continues to accept applications for its scholarship program. Completed applications must be returned to the credit union by July 1.
  • Community CU donated chairs, tables, supplies, and electronics to the Auburn SHAREcenter.
  • Connected CU provided lunch from Subway to the Augusta Teen Center.
  • cPort CU held its annual meeting virtually on May 26.
  • Staff at Cumberland County FCU’s Windham branch went “wild” on May 10. Employees dressed in animal prints as a fun teambuilding experience.
  • Dirigo FCU celebrated Nurses Week by presenting Central Maine Medical Center with a donation, water bottles, and lunch bags for their hardworking nurses.
  • Taylor Cushing of Downeast CU presented Eastport Labor of Love with a $674 check to support its patrons.
  • Eastmill FCU opened registration for its 2021 college scholarships.
  • Evergreen CU helped Full Plates Full Potential fund grants to support summer meal programs in Westbrook and South Portland.
  • Five County CU celebrated several anniversaries this month. Happy work anniversary to Stephen M., Kara E., Lynn F., Jade E., Kim H., Karyn C., Tarren G., and Summer U!
  • On May 26, Gardiner FCU held a small reception where they distributed checks to area food pantries and agencies that address food insecurity. Each organization received a check for $2,482.38!
  • Infinity CU finalized its merger with Deere Employees Credit Union! Congratulations!
  • It was a busy May for Katahdin FCU. The credit union held its annual meeting virtually on May 11 and then held a member shred event on May 14.
  • KSW FCU celebrated Star Wars Day (May 4) by raffling off tickets to Funtown  Splashtown USA.
  • KV FCU employee Bill recently celebrated 23 years at the credit union. Happy 23rd work anniversary!
  • Lewiston Municipal FCU awarded two local high school graduates with scholarships valued at $1,000 each. Congratulations, Alex and David!
  • Lincoln Maine FCU published a blog that encourages members to ask themselves seven questions before making a large purchase.
  • Lisbon Community FCU celebrated the birthdays of Shelly Curtis and Randi Edmond.
  • With the help of CO-OP Miracle Match, Maine Family FCU donated $5,756 to the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at Maine Medical Center.
  • In its spring newsletter, Maine Highlands FCU announced the winners of its Q1 Smart Savers Monty Moose program.
  • Maine Savings FCU’s May Career Award recipient was Jody Warren. She was nominated for always going the extra mile and prioritizing her staff.
  • Maine Solutions FCU shared the Maine Credit Unions’ Virtual Financial Fitness Fair link on its website to help promote financial education.
  • Maine State CU’s employee choice charity of the month was KVCAP. The organization helps people living in Kennebec and Somerset counties achieve social and economic self-sufficiency.
  • Midcoast FCU’s Bath branch received the 2021 Landscaping Award from the Community Forestry Committee. Congratulations!
  • Monmouth FCU announced it will be holding its 67th annual meeting on June 15.
  • New Dimensions FCU recently celebrated Executive Assistant Sharon Storti, who has been working at the credit union for 21 years. Thank you, Sharon, for your years of service!
  • Northeast CU announced Doug Site’s promotion to Vice President of Consumer & Indirect Lending. Congratulations, Doug!
  • NorState FCU donated drum kits to the High View Rehab and Nursing Center to provide a fun summer activity.
  • OTIS FCU held its annual plant sale to benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Oxford FCU helped Full Plates Full Potential fund grants to support summer meal programs in Bethel and Dixfield.
  • Penobscot County FCU took time to extend to their employees and members a happy Mother’s Day message on Facebook.
  • PeoplesChoice CU accepted applications for its 2021 Maine Merits Scholarship.
  • Sabattus Regional CU held its 2nd annual plant sale. All proceeds went to the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Saco Valley CU helped Full Plates Full Potential fund grants to support summer meal programs in Biddeford, Old Orchard Beach, and Waterboro.
  • Seaboard FCU helped Full Plates Full Potential fund a grant to support the summer meal program in RSU 25 (Bucksport).
  • In its spring newsletter, Sebasticook Valley FCU recognized employee anniversaries. Three employees—Kristina Hall, Sandra Braley, and President Jim Lemieux—have each been with the credit union for over two decades. Congratulations to all!
  • The County FCU held its 65th annual meeting virtually on May 3.
  • Town & Country FCU provided a donation to the Scarborough School Department to support its summer meal program.
  • Trademark FCU congratulated Joann Bisson, President and CEO, for her re-election as Board Chair for the Maine Credit Union League. Thank you for your dedication, Joann.
  • Throughout the month, the team at TruChoice FCU shared helpful tips for vacationing on a budget.
  • UCU loves recognizing employees who go above and beyond. Congratulations to Naomi Everett, the latest recipient of the UCU Star Award!
  • Winthrop Area FCU provided a donation to Camp Mechuwana in Winthrop to support its summer meal program.
