To help commemorate Earth Day, Community CU hosted a drive-thru Community Recycle Day on April 24. The event provided community members an opportunity to shred personal documents and turn in household items and tires.
Several organizations joined Community CU in making the event a success. These include Without A Trace Mobile Shredding, the Auburn School Department’s SHARECenter, and Stratham Tire.
The results from the Community Recycle Day speak for themselves:
- 3,600 pounds of documents were shredded, protecting individuals and businesses from identity theft.
- A truckload of reusable items and approximately $375 was donated to the SHAREcenter.
- Tires collected by Stratham Tire are being distributed to a local Maine business where they will be repurposed for engineering projects.
“We had a wonderful turnout of volunteers and community members,” said Erin M. Dunn-Kimball, Community CU’s Recycle Day Coordinator. “The winds calmed and the temperatures peaked, giving us fantastic weather for this event. Our community members, volunteers, and vendors made the Community Recycle Day drive-thru event a success. We all worked together to recycle, protect personal information, and support the missions of our community partners!”
“We were able to rescue thousands of dollars in reusable resources for our schools and non-profits,” said Lisa Rodrigues, Director at the SHAREcenter. “100% of the proceeds will go to supporting Maine’s environment, education, and economy!”
