After a long and successful career in the financial services industry, Changing Seasons FCU’s Sue Cross soon will begin an exciting new chapter: retirement! Cross will be stepping down from her current role as Executive Vice President/CFO at the end of this month.
“Sue Cross has been in banking for over 50 years,” said Rob Picard, President/CEO at Changing Seasons FCU. “Her leadership and expertise have been instrumental to the success of many organizations and have been the cornerstone to the success of Changing Seasons FCU.”
Cross began her career in 1970 working as a secretary for a credit union’s auditing department. In this role, she was responsible for typing letters and reports. She then worked in various positions at banks handling auditing, lending, and commercial lending. She also served as a branch manager before returning to the credit union movement in the late eighties.
“This endeavor brought me back to where I started in banking; at a place where we knew our customers/members by name, and where I was part of the People Helping People world,” said Cross.
She was employed as a manager at Eastern Maine Medical Center FCU and then spent time working at other credit unions in the greater Bangor area. For the past eleven years, she has been with Changing Seasons FCU.
“Throughout the years and all of the changes, there has been one constant—the people,” said Cross. “I have been blessed to have met hundreds of people who helped me learn how to do my job and see the importance of serving members like they are friends and family.”
Cross started working for Changing Seasons FCU as a part-time collector and was quickly promoted to vice president, and eventually became CEO. She entered semi-retirement in 2016, assuming the role of Finance Administrator, but rejoined the credit union full-time at the end of 2018. She again served as the CEO until Picard joined the credit union nine months later.
“Sue laid the framework for our credit union to be successful for many years to come,” added Picard. “It has been an absolute privilege to have been mentored by Sue for almost two years and now it is my honor to help her celebrate her well-deserved retirement.”
Since Picard took over as CEO, Cross has been working as the credit union’s Executive Vice President/CFO. Her last day at Changing Seasons FCU is March 31.
“It is not the positions that I have held, or the seminars I have taken, or even the hours that I have put in on the job,” added Cross. “What has shaped my career and filled 50 years are all the people that I have met along the way!”
The League joins the team at Changing Seasons FCU, its 11 employees and over 2,100 members, as well as Sue’s credit union colleagues throughout Maine in wishing her a very happy and healthy retirement!
