From celebrating Valentine’s Day, to announcing scholarship opportunities, to supporting initiatives like the Campaign for Ending Hunger and Special Olympics, Maine’s credit unions helped spread love in their communities throughout the month of February. Here is a look at what some of our credit unions were up to last month:
- Acadia FCU announced it will award $6,000 in scholarships to eligible area high school seniors.
- The 2021 Atlantic FCU College Scholarship is now open for applications. The credit union will award a total of five scholarships ranging from $1,000 – $10,000.
- Bangor FCU announced it will be upgrading its online and mobile banking platform. Stay tuned for more updates coming in March!
- Brewer FCU ended the month by encouraging members to post photos and comments on its Facebook page describing how they spent the weekend enjoying the Maine outdoors!
- Capital Area FCU’s Special Olympics Maine representatives met with Rowan Bost from Senator Susan Collins’ office and John C. McGinley, Global Ambassador for the Special Olympics, to discuss the organization’s life-changing work and mission.
- The team at Casco FCU put its crafting skills to work and made over 160 cards for local seniors at the Gorham House.
- Central Maine FCU honored World Cancer Day to show support to those who have battled cancer.
- Changing Seasons FCU celebrated Valentine’s Day by giving away three raffle prizes from local vendors.
- In its winter newsletter, Coastline CU reminded members that direct deposit can be a fast and easy way to get their tax refund.
- Community CU hosted several financial wellness webinars.
- Anna Holdener, Connected CU‘s new Director, delivered pizza from the Smithfield General Store to the South End Teen Center.
- cPort CU hosted a spirit week and celebrated with Scrabble, flannel, and a sports-themed day.
- Happy anniversary to Cumberland County FCU’s Card Manager Felicia Wentworth! Thank you for your hard work and service!
- Dirigo FCU held a Cutest Pet Contest. Congratulations to Penny the Corgi for winning the title and a $500 Petco gift card!
- Downeast CU celebrated several employees in February! Happy anniversary to Lisa P. and Ashley C. in Topsham; MaryEva T. in Machias, Erica I., Tammy H., and Samantha H. in Baileyville; Anne L. in Unity; and Michelle C. in Calais.
- Eastmill FCU posted its scholarship application on its website. Members can apply for a chance to receive a scholarship from the credit union.
- Evergreen CU is a big supporter of the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland. The credit union praised the organization on its social media feed for placing over 2,900 animals in new homes in 2020.
- Five County CU helped raise money for STRIVE & Special Olympics Maine by selling masks at its Yarmouth branch.
- Gardiner FCU raised $600 for the Campaign for Ending Hunger by selling paper hearts at its branch.
- Infinity FCU spread random acts of kindness by delivering flowers to community centers on Valentine’s Day.
- KSW FCU is sponsoring the Waterville Opera House’s 2021 season.
- KV FCU highlighted three essential workers and shared their stories on Facebook. Each hero received a Keurig mini, KV FCU coffee mugs, a $100 VISA gift card, and a spa day gift card.
- To remind members about the importance of protecting their personal data, Lincoln Maine FCU wrote a timely blog, All You Need to Know About Ransomware. The blog is posted on the credit union’s website.
- Lisbon Community FCU celebrated two employee birthdays. Happy birthday to Kristi Foss and Amanda Lamb!
- Maine Family FCU announced it will award three scholarships this spring, each for $1,000, to help student members pay for education or training post-high school.
- Maine Savings FCU donated $25,000 to the Piscataquis Regional YMCA.
- Maine State CU selected the SSG Travis Mills Foundation as its employee charity of choice for February.
- Chandra Thoits, Midcoast FCU’s HR Training Specialist II, cooked and served lunch at Freeport Community Services.
- New Dimensions FCU sold coin purses to benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger and Special Olympics Maine.
- Northeast CU celebrated a week filled with Random Acts of Kindness. Employees brought treats to community members and provided members Dunkin’ Donuts gift cards.
- NorState FCU sent teachers in northern Aroostook County carnations to brighten their day and thank them for their service.
- OTIS FCU sold various handmade items in its lobby to benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
- Oxford FCU sponsored the grade league basketball team at the River Valley Recreation Center.
- Happy birthday to Dana, Penobscot County FCU’s Southern AVP!
- In 2021, PeoplesChoice CU will have six employees with 30+ years of service, five of whom have 35+ years of service, and another eleven with over 10 years of service.
- Sabattus Regional CU held a youth essay competition and asked students to describe their favorite activity in Maine.
- Saco Valley CU opened its 2021 scholarship program. Saco Valley CU members who are high school seniors, current college students, and non-traditional students are eligible to apply.
- Seaboard FCU announced it has three nominations for its 2021 Board. The election will take place virtually during its upcoming annual meeting.
- The County FCU celebrated 65 years as a federally charted credit union! Thank you for your many years of service to your members.
- Town & Country FCU gave away gift cards to local pizzerias as part of its Local Helping Local Delivers initiative.

- University CU offered a virtual course for first-time home buyers.
