League Contributes Articles to New Mainer Newspaper

Did you know the Maine Credit Union League is a regular contributor to the state’s leading newspaper for New Mainers, Amjambo Africa? Each month, the League submits a financial education article that is featured in the paper’s finance section. cPort CU contributes a monthly column as well.

Before developing each article, Jake Holmes, the League’s Financial Literacy Outreach Coordinator, meets virtually with the Business, Economics, & Financial Literacy Committee to discuss what topics will be both timely and relevant to the immigrant community. Ensuring relevant topics helps New Mainers navigate through the newfound challenges of understanding and prospering within the U.S. financial system.

After submitting the article to Amjambo Africa in English, the column is translated to French, Swahili, Somali, Kinyarwanda, and Portuguese. The newspaper is featured in the Sunday edition of the Portland Press Herald and the Bangor Daily News. Approximately 15,000 copies are printed monthly. Additionally, digital editions of the publication are available online and an archive of all published financial education articles can be found within the finance section on Amjambo Africa’s website.
