CU News and Events December Edition

While many were excited to say goodbye to 2020, Maine credit unions made the most of the last month of the year. Employees celebrated the holidays, work anniversaries, and much more! Here’s a look at what some of our credit unions were up to during the month of December:

  • Acadia FCU donated $5 to the Campaign for Ending Hunger for every employee who wore an ugly Christmas sweater or mask to work before the holidays.
  • Atlantic FCU celebrated several work anniversaries this month! Thank you to Linda, Annemarie, Jon, Jennifer, Robyn, Chris, Sarah, Ashley, and Tiffany for your years of service!
  • Bangor FCU partnered with the Ellsworth Area Chamber of Commerce to celebrate their annual Ugly Sweater Day.
  • Brewer FCU enlisted their members to help collect gifts for the Smile of a Child Christmas Program. Brewer FCU sponsored eleven children this holiday season.
  • Congratulations to Eli Cummings at Capital Area FCU for being promoted to the lending department.
  • The “elves” at Casco FCU assembled gift baskets for seniors in their community as part of the Casco Cares Holiday Helpers program. The baskets included winter essentials, non-perishable food, and other wish list items.
  • Central Maine FCU created and shared two YouTube videos to help members. The first video walks members through the ease and convenience of using services at the drive-up. The second teaches members how to deposit checks using a mobile device.
  • The team at Changing Seasons FCU got creative for their annual holiday party. Staff working at the branch participated in an ugly Christmas sweater cookie decorating contest. The credit union’s remote staff served as virtual judges for the special competition.
  • Community CU held a 50/50 raffle to benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Connected CU raffled off a mini Christmas tree with $50 worth of scratch tickets. All ticket proceeds went to benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • cPort CU thanked their employees for their generosity and kindness. With their help, the credit union provided support during the holiday season to Good Shepherd Food Bank, Project G.R.A.C.E., Preble Street, Augusta School District, The Salvation Army, and Portland’s homeless community.
  • Cumberland County FCU decorated trees to help spread holiday cheer. After the trees were decorated, members voted for their favorite tree on the credit union’s Facebook page.
  • Dirigo FCU celebrated the holidays by hosting its first annual gingerbread house contest.
  • Downeast CU celebrated two work anniversaries this month. Thank you, Carol H. from the Richmond branch and Alecia L. from the Baileyville branch for your service to the credit union.
  • Eastmill CU’s Patten branch entered a community-wide Christmas tree contest hosted by the Patten Pentecostal Church.
  • Evergreen CU was named Adaptive Business of the Year at the 2020 Propel Ignition Awards. Congratulations!
  • Five County CU celebrated several work anniversaries in December. Thank you to Jacqueline S., Jacqueline R., Jessy R., Tracy C., Jeffrey F., Nichole D., and Cameron B. for your years of service.
  • Gardiner FCU recorded virtual Christmas card greetings to share with their members, friends, and family on Facebook.
  • Infinity FCU’s Special Project Assistant Mohammed Baqer passed his United States citizenship exam! Many congratulations, Mohammed, on this significant achievement!
  • Katahdin FCU collected hats and mittens as part of its partnership with Brookfield Renewable in support of the “Providing Warmth for the Katahdin Region” initiative. The credit union also partnered with DeadRiver to provide heating fuel assistance to Christ the Devine Mercy Parish.
  • KSW FCU sponsored Cruisin 93.5’s New Year’s Eve program. As part of its sponsorship, the credit union donated a $100 Visa gift card that was raffled off during the event.
  • KV FCU brought Santa to town early! The credit union partnered with 107.9 The Mix to have Santa make an on-air visit and help parents fulfill some Christmas wishes.
  • Throughout the month, Lincoln Maine FCU shared photos of Penny, their Elf on the Shelf, on social media. Members were pleased to see what Penny was up to around the office.
  • Happy birthday to Lisbon Community FCU’s Jessica Morrill, Kayla Williams, and Jason Hilt!
  • Maine Family FCU held a 50/50 raffle which raised $2,256. This amount was matched by the Credit Union Miracle Makers and donated to the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital.
  • Maine Savings FCU announced Vanessa Madore will succeed John Reed as President and CEO in 2023.
  • Maine State CU will miss Mary and Terri, but retirement will be sweet! Congratulations and thank you for your years of service.
  • Midcoast FCU proudly supported Rockland’s Salvation Army. Tena from Midcoast’s Thomaston branch served as a holiday bell ringer.
  • New Dimensions FCU’s CEO Ryan Poulin dressed up as Buddy the Elf to spread cheer and surprise the staff!
  • Northeast CU surprised one lucky member with a $10,000 check to complete its “Get There, Checking Sweepstakes.”
  • NorState FCU hosted its annual holiday food drive. The credit union collected over 8,342 pounds of non-perishable items to stock the shelves of local food pantries!
  • OTIS FCU shared a video message from its staff to thank their members and wish them a happy holiday.
  • Oxford FCU donated to Daddy O’s Acts of Kindness Foundation. This organization provides support to various groups and organizations in Oxford County.
  • Penobscot County FCU and The County FCU announced that they received the necessary approvals to complete their merger. Congratulations!
  • Congratulations to Sean M. for winning December’s PeoplesChoice CU “Shout Out” Award. Sean stands out for his positive attitude, humor, and willingness to always lend a hand.
  • Saco Valley CU wore ugly Christmas sweaters around the office to get into the holiday spirit.
  • Sabattus Regional CU did a reverse advent calendar to benefit their local food pantry. For every day in December, employees and members donated a food item or hygiene product.
  • Seaboard FCU staff and community members donated gifts to support the Christmas is For Kids Campaign to help children in living in Bucksport, Orland, and Verona.
  • Sebasticook Valley FCU concluded its holiday cash calendar giveaway. All proceeds from the calendar sales will support organizations that help feed people in the community.
  • Town & Country FCU provided members with gift cards to Maine-based businesses during its 12 Days of Help Shopping Local.
  • On December 17, the team at Trademark FCU added some fun to their morning meeting by holding an ugly mask competition. You can check out the staff’s creativity on Trademark FCU’s Facebook page.
  • TruChoice FCU announced that Lori Harmon, Deposit Operations Specialist, is the winner of the Spirit Award. Thank you, Lori, for always lending a helping hand!
  • University CU wishes Vicki Tapley, Assistant Branch Manager, a happy retirement! Your team will miss you and your spirit.
  • Winthrop Area FCU’s staff participated in a Secret Santa gift swap.
