During this month of thanksgiving, credit unions raised money for important causes, recognized employees for work achievements and anniversaries, and supported local businesses with fun promotions and giveaways. Here’s a snapshot of some of the activities Maine’s credit unions participated in last month.

  • Acadia FCU hosted a tag sale at its operations center in Fort Kent to benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger. The credit union sold chairs, cabinets, and other office equipment.
  • Atlantic FCU collected submissions for the Amable & Vivian Caron Scholarship. The $2,500 scholarship will be awarded to a member that is currently enrolled at a college or vocational school.
  • Bangor Federal is offering qualified members who make a minimum donation to the Campaign for Ending Hunger a chance to skip-a-payment this holiday season. Details on how to apply for this skip payment option and support the Campaign are available on the credit union’s website.
  • Brewer FCU partnered with the Smile of a Child Christmas Program to provide gifts for children during the holiday season.
  • Capital Area FCU sold masks from their friends at the Insurance Trust to benefit Special Olympics Maine.
  • Casco FCU celebrated two birthdays this month. Happy birthday to Kelsey and Katie!
  • Central Maine FCU made it easier for members to monitor their credit score and credit report through its Credit Sense feature, which is built into the credit union’s online banking platform.
  • Changing Seasons FCU raffled off a $150 gift card to those who applied for a Kasasa Take It or Leave It loan.
  • Community CU, Dirigo FCU, Five County CU, Lisbon Community FCU, and Lewiston Municipal FCU sponsored the Kora Shriner’s FEZtival of Trees. The annual event, which went virtual for the first time this year, gave away over $2,200 worth of gift cards to local businesses to lucky raffle winners.
  • Connected CU celebrated Small Business Saturday at its Winslow branch by giving members free coupon booklets for discounts at local businesses.
  • cPort CU served as a sponsor of STRIVE’s Annual Auction and India Street Society’s 2020 Gathering.
  • Congratulations to Deb Martin, Training Specialist at Cumberland County FCU, for completing and passing CUNA’s Service Strategies Trainer Certification! Deb was part of the first group to take this four-week certification course virtually.
  • Downeast CU celebrated several anniversaries this month. Thank you to Catherine L. in Bangor, Mandi C. and Diane R. in Calais, Rachel M. in Machias, Stacy J. in Richmond, and Mary R. in Topsham for your years of service.
  • Eastmill CU raffled off Visa gift cards to promote loan refinancing. Depending on the loan amount, members were entered to win a Visa gift card worth $100, $200, or $250!
  • Evergreen CU had a virtual Shelter Sleep-in and raised $3,155 for the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland.
  • Franklin-Somerset FCU’s Linda Cooley coordinated a collection box for the United Way/Skowhegan Food Cupboard’s food drive. Employees helped by providing non-perishable items to support their community.
  • Gardiner FCU helped family friends during Thanksgiving by selling homemade pies baked by its staff. 100% of the proceeds from the sale went to the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • In anticipation of Small Business Saturday, Infinity FCU profiled various small businesses on its Facebook page. The credit union’s “Small Business Shout-outs” encouraged members to shop local this holiday season.
  • Katahdin FCU held its annual meeting virtually on November 9.
  • KSW FCU awarded cash prizes between $25 and $100 to members who purchased cash calendars during the month of November.
  • KV FCU donated food and $1,000 to the United Way of Kennebec Valley during Camp Out for Hunger 2020.
  • Lincoln Maine FCU asked members to share what they’re grateful for during their Thankful Photo Contest. A lucky member received $50 for a charity of their choice and a second-place winner was selected to receive $25 for their charity.
  • Maine Family FCU issued three $1,000 college scholarships to students at Lewiston High School. Congratulations to Jordyn Rubin, Melina Masselli, and Veda Leclerc!
  • Maine Highlands FCU celebrated over a dozen work anniversaries! Happy anniversary to Tammy Creswell, Ramon Flint, Diane Parola, Brian Ronco, Diane Danforth, Debbie Cross, Janice Day. Danielle Mailloux, Adam Sheehan, Darcie Burch, Maria Wooten, James Bell, Kaitlyn Gibbs, Leah Hobbs, Monique Plummer, Sonya Smith, Jan McNaughton, Lisa Provost, and Michelle Nichols!
  • Maine Savings FCU held its annual meeting virtually on November 24.
  • Congratulations to Jeanne, this year’s recipient of the Maine State CU President’s Award. Jeanne always demonstrates her commitment to the credit union and acts as a role model for everyone working at the Waterville branch.
  • Midcoast FCU spread holiday cheer this Thanksgiving with the Rockland Rotary Club. Together, they donated food supplied for the residents at the Knox County Homeless Coalition/Hospitality House.
  • New Dimensions FCU celebrated three work anniversaries and a special award for its CEO! Ryan Poulin received the 2020 League President’s Award. Michelle Beaulieu, Bonnie Long, and Scott Fotter also were recognized for their years of service with the credit union. Congratulations to all!
  • Northeast CU supported Greg & The Morning Buzz’s Lend a Helping Can Radiothon and gave away a $50 Northeast CU Visa gift card during the event.
  • NorState FCU’s Ashland branch won the “Squad Goals Award” for its Monsters, Inc. themed Trunk or Treat at the Ashland Rec Center.
  • OTIS FCU took its annual craft fair virtual! All crafts were locally made and proceeds from the fair benefited the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Oxford FCU gave away Visa gift cards to local schools as part of its Helping Hands program. The gift cards were 100% funded by the employees in an act to give back to the community.
  • Penobscot County FCU welcomed a new team member last month. Welcome to Desiree, Member Relations Specialist at Penobscot’s Old Town branch!
  • PeoplesChoice CU launched a new website! Head over to their website to check out their new features and design.
  • Saco Valley CU and Town & Country FCU sponsored Rewind 100.9’s annual Stuff the Bus for Preble Street Food Programs. The effort raised over $25,000 to keep Mainers fed this winter.
  • Seaboard FCU continued its annual tradition of making Thanksgiving baskets filled with hams, turkey, and fixings for local families.
  • The holiday cash calendar is back! The team at Sebasticook Valley FCU has been busy selling calendars to benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • The County FCU donated $500 for the High Five Turkey Drive. Their donation helped feed 50 local families.
  • Trademark FCU held a Snacks for Students Food Drive for three local schools. The schools received goodies as well as a monetary donation.
  • Congratulations to Kelly Dunham, recipient of University CU’s Star Award! Kelly goes out of her way to make sure members are taken care of throughout the lending process.
  • In advance of Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping promotions, TruChoice FCU took time to remind members about the importance of using online shopping security precautions. The credit union posted a timely alert on its Facebook page before the big shopping days arrived.
  • Winthrop Area FCU celebrated their employee, Terri Camick. Terri has been working for the credit union for 40 years! Congratulations, Terri!
