CU News & Events – October Edition

October was a month filled with fall festivities. Whether they were celebrating International Credit Union Day, Halloween, or their own community events, credit union employees made the most of what the month delivered. Here is a snapshot of some of the activities credit unions participated in last month:

  • Acadia FCU gave away a $25 gift card to one lucky member at each branch during Membership Appreciation Week.
  • Atlantic FCU began accepting applications for its Amable and Vivian Caron College Scholarship. The credit union will award one member currently enrolled at an accredited college or vocational school a $2,500 scholarship.
  • Bangor FCU celebrated International Credit Union Day by giving away several gift cards to members. Card values ranged from $25 to $100.
  • It was a month of giveaways at Brewer FCU. The credit union provided water bottles to its followers on Facebook. One lucky member even received a new Brewer FCU hat.
  • Capital Area FCU hosted an indoor flea market to raise funds for Special Olympics Maine.
  • Casco FCU and cPort CU supported ProsperityME and its annual block party. The block party was live streamed on October 12 and featured discussions about financial empowerment and the challenges facing immigrants.
  • Central Maine FCU celebrated its 70th anniversary by giving away $70 to 70 members! Members who visited the Lewiston branch scored additional prizes and pastries.
  • In honor of their TV ad debut on Monday Night Football, Changing Seasons FCU held a fun cash drawing. Members could enter to win cash prizes by correctly identifying which quarter the credit union’s ad appeared in.
  • Community CU provided back-to-school supplies to local classrooms.
  • Connected CU has amazing members! Sandra C. donated her earnings from a raffle held at the Winslow branch to the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Congratulations to Cumberland County FCU Branch Manager Ashley Callahan for celebrating 15 years of service last month with the credit union.
  • Congratulations to Tammy Beaulieu Hemond, Branch Manager at Dirigo FCU, for earning her business degree from SNHU!
  • Downeast CU is celebrating the anniversaries of several employees. Thank you to Tonia L., Judy M., and Zach T. in Calais; Paula P. in Bangor, Dawn L. and Melanie N. in Richmond; Shaina H. in Baileyville; and Brett M. in Belfast for being part of a wonderful team!
  • Eastmill FCU gifted two lucky members $100 Visa gift cards on International Credit Union Day and got into the holiday spirit on Halloween by dressing up as bandits at their branch.
  • Evergreen CU helped support local restaurants, farms, and hunger organizations through a partnership with Cooking for Community Maine. Within 48 hours, $15,350 was raised!
  • Five County CU will be helping keep its community warm this winter by supporting Keep ME Warm, a program which provides emergency heating assistance through a partnership with Maine’s United Way.
  • Gardiner FCU supported its friends at the Faith Food Pantry by donating 960 rolls of toilet paper.
  • Infinity FCU employees were named 2020 Superheroes by CRMNEXT in their Right on the Money Championship. The credit union was recognized for its community work through the #WeWillRise campaign.
  • KSW FCU announced that it will serve as a sponsor of the Waterville Opera House.
  • Lincoln Maine FCU commemorated International Credit Union Day with a virtual celebration that included prize giveaways to members.
  • Happy retirement to Lisbon Community FCU’s Janice Gawrys! Thank you for your years of service to the credit union movement.
  • Maine Savings FCU welcomed seven new employees to their team during the month of October.
  • On October 23, Maine State CU employees wore pink to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
  • Midcoast FCU employees showcased their Halloween spirit during their annual costume contest. Staff at all branches dressed up for the festive occasion.
  • Monmouth FCU sponsored the Monmouth Community Players performance of Tales from Spoon River. Shows took place mid-month at the Monmouth Fairgrounds.
  • New Dimensions FCU sponsored a Halloween basket raffle. Money raised from the raffle benefited Special Olympics Maine and the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • NorState FCU announced that Brittany Dubois is its new Van Buren Branch Manager and Kimberly Embelton is its new Branch Manager at the Presque Isle location.
  • Northeast CU showed their appreciation for their managers Jenn Albert and Magen Moreau with cake on National Boss Day on October 16.
  • OTIS FCU donated $5,000 to the Jay Historical Society to help with repair costs for the Holmes-Crafts Homestead.
  • Oxford FCU donated $1,000 to Dixfield Discount Fuel Inc. to support the company’s holiday toy drive.
  • Penobscot County FCU started a “Grateful Wall” at its Old Town branch. Employees listed wonderful reasons why they are grateful, including new jobs, Fridays, memories, and french fries!
  • PeoplesChoice CU successfully hosted its 17th Annual Polar Bear Golf Tournament on October 8 to benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger, CULAC, and Special Olympics Maine.
  • On October 29, Saco Valley CU announced it will be sponsoring meals to honor veterans on Veteran’s Day at the Golden Rooster Restaurant in Saco.
  • Sabattus Regional CU celebrated International Credit Union Day by giving away goodies to members and a $50 Visa gift card.
  • The County FCU celebrated their Best Places to Work in ME award by providing their employees new commemorative t-shirts.
  • Town & Country FCU celebrated Halloween by giving away nine gift cards to Haven’s Candies.
  • Trademark FCU gave away $50 each week last month to random members who used the ITM machines!
  • Happy Birthday to Melissa Wight! Melissa has been with Winthrop Area FCU for nine years as a loan officer.
