The Maine Department of Health and Human Services announced plans to distribute rapid COVID-19 antigen tests across Maine. The Department is working with Walgreens to distribute the tests, which will be provided at no cost and offer results in approximately 15 minutes.
Of the 400,000 tests coming to Maine, 300,000 will be distributed at Walgreens locations by the end of the year. The other 100,000 will be distributed to people who are symptomatic, and to healthcare workers, first responders, and school staff.
Increasing the availability of rapid COVID-19 testing is good news for Maine and certainly for essential businesses like credit unions. The convenience of rapid testing could help employees get back to work faster if they receive a negative rapid test result.
The League will continue to monitor and keep credit unions posted on updates as this important testing program is implemented.
