Maine State CU Buys Meals for First Responders

A police officer from the City of Augusta accepts his Maine State CU gift card.

Maine State CU employees took time away from the busy drive-thru to show their support for police, fire, and rescue personnel in Augusta and Waterville. They delivered gift cards to these first responders to purchase meals from local restaurants.

“We wanted to do something for other essential employees, at the same time helping local restaurants,” said Tucker Cole, CEO of Maine State CU. “Police officers, firefighters, and EMTs are on-call 24/7 making sure our communities remain safe. We wanted to show our appreciation for what they do every day.”

Branch employees traveled across Kennebec County to present gift cards to first responders and say thanks. Many of the departments were surprised by the gesture and all were appreciative.

Maine State CU continues to provide its members with the highest level of service during this time. While the lobbies are closed, the drive-thru is open and busy.

“We are dedicated to helping our members when things get tough,” said Cole. “To some of our members, it’s helping them use the drive-thru for the first time, others it’s the ability to skip a loan payment or apply for a community care loan to bridge their financial income gap. Our employees’ compassion for our members and community is shining through in their voices and actions. When asked if someone wanted to deliver gift cards to local first responders to show our appreciation, many raised their hand without hesitation. That is who we are.”
