CU Youth Month Tip of the Week: Talk About College Scholarships With Your Children

(From the Financial Literacy Blog) – Talking to your kids about money?

If their long-term plans include going to college, it’s important to discuss how their education will be funded. Explain to your children that if they need to borrow money for school, they’ll have to pay all that back and more. The earlier you discuss college costs with your children, the more time they will have to save money and apply for scholarships, reducing the amount they’ll need to borrow.

When looking for scholarships with your children, reach out to your local credit union. Many credit unions throughout the state offer scholarships to college-bound students within their field of membership.
