Credit Union News & Events


Maine credit unions expressed their thankfulness for their members and communities throughout the month of November. Here is a look at what our credit union network was up to last month:

  • Construction continues at Acadia FCU’s new Broadway branch in Bangor. Furniture is already being set up in completed areas of the building and a grand opening celebration is planned for January.
  • On November 8, staff from Atlantic FCU provided juniors at Greely High School a lesson about budgeting, credit, and auto loans.
  • Bangor FCU held a food drive throughout the month to benefit the Old Town Elementary School Community Pantry.
  • Staff from Brewer FCU joined Z107.3 and collected turkeys at the Brewer Hannaford parking lot for Penquis to assist local families in need.
  • Capital Area FCU held a book sale to benefit Special Olympics Maine.
  • To ensure all of their neighbors had a wonderful Thanksgiving, Casco FCU dropped off a donation to the Standish Food Pantry on November 21.
  • Central Maine CU held a 50/50 raffle to benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger. The credit union also made a $500 donation to the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society.
  • Changing Seasons FCU participated in the Maine Harvest Festival at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor. Staff even brought Monty Moose with them for photo opportunities!
  • Community CU and Five County CU joined together in decorating a Disney-themed tree at the FEZtival of Trees at Kora Temple in Lewiston.
  • Connected CU held a pie sale on November 25 to benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • cPort CU was proud to sponsor the Portland Youth Football League this fall and shared a photo of the team at their end of year banquet on November 4.
  • Staff from Cumberland County FCU came together as a team to enjoy their annual “Worksgiving” lunch on November 14, complete with traditional Thanksgiving treats.
  • Dirigo FCU announced it donated to more than 20 local organizations as part of the credit union’s involvement and fundraising for the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Downeast CU held a November eStatement contest. To play, members had to enroll or view their DECU eStatement, make a mobile deposit, then comment on the credit union’s Facebook page to be entered. The winner had the choice of receiving an Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, or $250 cash.
  • Eastmill FCU offered members important tips for avoiding financial scams in their latest newsletter.
  • Evergreen CU donated $1,642 to the American Cancer Society in Maine on November 8.
  • Franklin-Somerset FCU updated their website with some fun holiday-themed imagery last month.
  • Just ahead of Thanksgiving, Gardiner FCU held a homemade pie sale to benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger. With so much interest, the CU sold out of pies before noon and raised hundreds of dollars!
  • Great Falls FCU posted valuable information about avoiding financial scams on the homepage of its website.
  • Infinity FCU partnered with The Salvation Army to collect winter coats, hats, socks, gloves, and mittens for children in the Bangor area.
  • Katahdin FCU’s recent Shred Event was a huge success, with over 900 lbs. of paper shredded!
  • KSW FCU gave away hundreds of dollars through their cash calendar last month. Proceeds from this fundraiser benefited the Campaign for Ending Hunger and Special Olympics Maine.
  • On November 12, KV FCU dropped off a $1,000 donation at Spectrum Generations. This Area Agency on Aging office will use the donation to help fund their Meals on Wheels program.
  • Lewiston Municipal FCU announced its annual Holiday Skip-A-Payment is back and available until February 1, 2020.
  • Members at Lincoln Maine FCU started filling their Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots box in their lobby last month. The credit union is collecting donations during the month of December.
  • Lisbon Community FCU held its annual Campaign for Ending Hunger bake sale on November 22.
  • Coats for Kids boxes were put in both of Maine Family FCU’s lobbies in early November. Unused coats, hats, mittens, and snow pants are being collected for children in need this winter.
  • Maine Harvest FCU sponsored the 5th annual Maine Farmland Trust Farmland Access & Transfer Conference on November 18.
  • Maine Highlands FCU shared the Online Financial Fitness Fair experience with a group of local students with the goal of helping them achieve financial success.
  • Maine Media FCU celebrated its 84th year of serving its members Maine.
  • Staff from Maine Savings FCU’s member service center came together after work for a paint night on November 25.
  • Maine Solutions FCU has partnered with Servion to expand their first mortgage loan offerings.
  • Maine State CU’s online Auction to End Hunger made its return in November. During the last two weeks of the month, members could bid on items such as a signed Tom Brady photo, LL Bean snowshoes, AirPods, Bruins tickets, an Apple Watch, and much more. All proceeds benefited the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Midcoast FCU held an American Red Cross Blood Drive at its Freeport branch on November 20.
  • Sharon Storti, Executive Assistant at New Dimensions FCU, demonstrated the credit union difference by volunteering at a Special Olympics Maine bowling event held in early November.
  • NorState FCU joined the United Way of Aroostook in collecting turkeys for those in need on November 21 in Fort Kent. Two staff members from the credit union even dressed up as turkeys to help get as many donations as possible!
  • Northeast CU is proud to have all of its branches designated as Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots drop-off locations. The CU began collecting toys in November and will continue to do so until December 13.
  • On November 19, OTIS FCU raised $335 during its Paint Night for Ending Hunger in Maine.
  • Prior to the Thanksgiving holiday, employees at Oxford FCU donated non-perishable food items to students attending the Western Foothills Regional Program.
  • On November 20, staff from Penobscot County FCU provided students from Old Town High School a lesson about using and reading checks.
  • PeoplesChoice CU launched a holiday raffle to benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger. All PeoplesChoice CU branches will be selling tickets until December 20.
  • Sabattus Regional CU is collecting toys for the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots drive.
  • On November 21, Saco Valley CU held its annual spaghetti supper at the Biddeford Eagles Club. Proceeds from the event supported Special Olympics Maine and the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Seaboard FCU launched its 4th annual Sock-In-A-Box drive. The credit union is collecting new socks for children, teens, and adults at each of its branches for the Bangor Area Homeless Shelter, The Shaw House, and Emmaus Homeless Shelter.
  • Sebasticook Valley FCU continued selling their popular cash calendars.
  • On November 8, The County FCU concluded its popular Swap, Drop, and Roll loan promotion.
  • Town & Country FCU visited with Newsradio WGAN’s Ken & Matt and provided tips to their listeners about protecting financial information during the holidays.
  • Trademark FCU donated $1,000 to Bridging the Gap, a non-denominational low-barrier community resource center that assists individuals by providing opportunities for meaningful volunteerism and social connection.
  • TruChoice FCU provided the Biddeford Food Pantry a check for $524 to help the pantry purchase food. The pantry assists more than 600 families living in the area.
  • On November 25, University CU pledged to match up to $25,000 to help end food insecurity on college campuses as part of its Ending Hunger on Campus Campaign. The campaign will end on December 31 and will assist student-led, on-campus food assistance programs.
  • Winslow Community FCU is hosting a lobby raffle to benefit the Central Maine Fire Attack School in memory of Captain Scott Higgins. The drawing will be held on December 23.
  • Winthrop Area FCU was one of the sponsors of the Learn to Play Hockey for Free event held at the Kents Hill Ice Arena on November 16.
