Maine credit unions jumped into fall with fundraisers, donations, and plenty of back-to-school activities, while also planning ahead for what is shaping up to be a busy October. Here’s a snapshot of just some of the activities our credit unions were busy with last month:

  • A shirt with an Acadia FCU logo on it was spotted in Thailand on September 13, which is presumably the furthest traveled Acadia FCU logo to date!
  • Atlantic FCU’s CEO Scott Chretien presented a $60,000 check to Sanford High School’s superintendent and the president of the Sanford Legacy Foundation on September 10.
  • Bangor FCU raised over $12,600 at their 7th Annual Golf Tournament to End Hunger in Maine, which was held at the Hermon Meadow Golf Club on September 14.
  • Last month, Brewer FCU announced what it has planned for its upcoming Member Appreciation Day on October 18. They will be serving up hot dogs, chips, and drinks. Come join them in the fun!
  • Capital Area FCU held their Soup (for you) Day on September 20 and raised $245 for the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Sam, Casco FCU’s West Gorham Branch Manager, dropped off boxes of donations to the Standish Food Pantry on September 18. The credit union collects non-perishable donations for the pantry year-round.
  • After receiving so much positive feedback about their Lewiston branch’s Little Free Library, Central Maine CU decided to bring one to their Auburn location on September 10.
  • Changing Seasons FCU held its 4th Annual Bikes, Beans & Mean Machines Motorcycle Ride and Car Show on September 14. All proceeds raised benefited the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Community CU presented Maine Community Integration (MCI) with a check for $250 to help MCI provide their clients nutritious food and goods.
  • To help commemorate its ninth year of operation at Cony High School, Connected CU’s school branch opened with a fresh new look. In addition, Lexi Webber joined the Connected CU team to help manage branch operations at the school and lead financial literacy outreach with students.
  • A profile of Gene Ardito, CEO of cPort CU, was featured in the Portland Press Herald on September 18.
  • Cumberland County FCU held its annual Toss Hunger to the Curb event on September 24. Teams competed in a cornhole tournament and the credit union auctioned off Red Sox tickets, gift baskets, gift cards, and more. All proceeds went to support the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Staff members from Dirigo FCU volunteered for the United Way Day of Caring on September 13.
  • Downeast CU participated in the Maine Walk to End Alzheimer’s event in Lewiston on September 14. The credit union’s team had over 20 participants and raised over $4,090 toward Alzheimer’s research and care.
  • Eastmill CU posted their fall newsletter last month. It included a teaser about International Credit Union Day and highlighted Patten’s Pioneer Days and East Millinocket’s Summerfest.
  • Evergreen CU worked in partnership with the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland to open Portland’s newest trails. A grand opening celebration of the new trails took place on September 20.
  • Five County CU raised over $1,250 for Herp Haven Reptile Rescue and Sanctuary.
  • Franklin-Somerset FCU is partnering with Randy Dean this fall. Randy is a financial planner who helps clients plan for and work towards their financial goals. He is dedicated to providing meaningful financial strategies to address the concerns of individuals, families and business owners.
  • Throughout the month of September, Gardiner FCU collected food for the Tiger Food Pantry. The pantry is located inside Gardiner Area High School and is open to all MSAD 11 students and their families. The credit union also collected and donated supplies for area schools.
  • Great Falls FCU’s new and improved home banking system is now live! More details can be found on their website.
  • In their fifth year of hosting Parking for a Purpose, Infinity FCU raised nearly $10,000 for area non-profit organizations.
  • Last month, Katahdin FCU announced it would be hosting a shred event at their Millinocket office. Save the date and join them on October 18. Members can bring documents containing sensitive information for shredding free of charge.
  • KSW FCU celebrated Fraud Protection Friday on Friday the 13th.
  • KV FCU joined surrounding communities in wearing red to demonstrate support for those affected by the recent tragedy in Farmington.
  • Lewiston Municipal FCU is excited about International Credit Union Week! The credit union shared an update in early September to encourage members to stop in between October 14-18 to celebrate.
  • Lincoln Maine FCU shared 13 helpful tips on throwing a budget-friendly kid’s birthday party.
  • Staff at Lisbon Community FCU dressed down for “Jeans Week” September 23-28. All funds raised from the casual dress event benefited the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Members at Maine Family FCU were excited for their members to see their newly-paved parking lot at their Minot Avenue location in Auburn. The branch’s fresh look was completed on September 25.
  • Maine Highlands FCU raffled off a 65” UHD Smart TV last month. The raffled raised over $1,600 for the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • The Darlings Ice Cream for a Cause truck stopped by Maine Savings FCU’s Ellsworth branch on September 6, where they helped the credit union raise money for the Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital’s local food program.
  • Maine State CU held a member appreciation hot dog barbecue at all of their branches on September 27.
  • Midcoast FCU spent time volunteering at the Bath Area Food Bank on September 19.
  • As of September 24, Monmouth FCU’s exciting new mobile app is up and running!
  • On September 27, New Dimensions FCU held its 3rd Annual Pallet Night Fundraiser and raised $350 for Ending Hunger and Special Olympics Maine.
  • Stop by NorState FCU and use one of the credit union’s coin sorters at its Madawaska, Fort Kent, and Presque Isle branches. A portion of the user fees support a local charity.
  • Northeast CU sponsored a shred event on September 28 at the Rice Public Library in Kittery. Sensitive paperwork was disposed of for free and non-perishable items were collected for an area food pantry.
  • On September 23, Otis FCU announced that its Cash Calendar for Ending Hunger is back! Payouts for next month’s winning calendar will total $1,400.
  • Staff from Oxford FCU wore red to support the Farmington Fire Rescue on September 20.
  • Penobscot County FCU had a strong presence at the Old Town Riverfest on September 28, where staff served up hot chocolate to raise money for the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • PeoplesChoice CU had raffles, giveaways, and cannolis at their branches on September 12-13 to show how sweet membership is at their credit union!
  • Sabattus Regional CU raised over $3,500 during their 5th Annual Bike Ride & BBQ for Ending Hunger on September 22.
  • Saco Valley CU shared some helpful tips on saving on your next vacation.
  • Seaboard FCU had a great time exhibiting their booth during the Shop, Sip and Dine event at Autumn Gold Days in Ellsworth on September 30.
  • Sebasticook Valley FCU matched all funds raised at the JW Parks Golf Course throughout September, with proceeds benefiting MCI’s field hockey team.
  • The County FCU raffled off tickets for New England Patriots jerseys throughout September to raise money for the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Town & Country FCU announced it will hosting its 5th Annual Money Conference on October 19. The event will feature workshops on paying for college, home-buying, retirement, credit basics, and much more.
  • Trademark FCU continued accepting donations for their back-to-school supplies drive. Pencils, notebooks, crayons, backpacks, binders, rules, scissors and more were accepted and then donated to students in need.
  • TruChoice FCU raised $5,000 to support the Maine Children’s Cancer Program (MCCP) during the MCCP Walk on September 21.
  • University CU hosted a no-cost education seminar focused on diversification on September 25 in Orono.
  • Winslow Community FCU dropped off the donations it collected as part of its July & Happiness Happens programs to the Maine Children’s Home for Little Wanderers on September 5.
  • Winthrop Area FCU’s Lisa Adams celebrated her 25th work anniversary on September 12! Congratulations Lisa!
