Register Today for the 3rd Annual Financial Literacy Conference

Personal finance is becoming increasingly complex, with new tools, apps, and products being released all the time. When it comes to financial literacy, you’re never really done learning – even if you feel well-versed on this subject. That’s why Maine CU professionals, especially those with a passion for financial education, are invited to attend the Maine Credit Union League’s 3rd Annual Financial Literacy Conference on Thursday, October 10, at the CU Service Center in Westbrook, from 10:00 am-2:00 pm.

“The timing of the Financial Literacy Conference is designed to focus on ways credit unions can engage both youth and adults in financial education in the upcoming year,” said Jake Holmes, Financial Literacy Outreach Coordinator for the League. “This year’s conference will cover outreach tactics for kindergarteners to the state’s elder population, and everyone in between.”

Speakers and topics include:

State Senator Matthew Pouliot (District 15)
Senator Pouliot will speak to the importance of financial literacy in schools and discuss recently passed legislation that will help ensure proper fiscal education for K-12 students.

Jess Maurer, Executive Director of the Maine Council on Aging and Connie Jones, Program Director of Money Minders at the Southern Maine Area Agency on Aging
Maurer and Jones will provide tips that you can share with your older members to help them improve their financial well-being.

Leah Taylor, Vice Chair of the National Youth Involvement Board (NYIB)
Taylor will discuss the importance or reporting financial literacy outreach numbers to the NYIB and marketing fiscal education to youth.

There also will be ample time to network, exchange ideas, and prepare for financial education outreach efforts happening during the 2019-2020 school year.
