Maine’s credit union network is deeply committed to fraud detection and prevention and has been informed about a new mail scam that is targeting consumers in Maine and other states. Letters, like the one below, are being sent from multiple sources and reference a “Mystery Shopper” survey.
The scam encourages recipients to take part in an evaluation of their area department store by offering a financial reward. Participants are asked to deposit a check, purchase gift cards, and text a number for additional information. The check amounts vary, ranging from $1,950 – $4,550.
If you or someone you know receives a letter, do not deposit any check enclosed! Remember, if an offer seems too good to be true, it usually is.
