As part of its Books for Kids program, Central Maine Credit Union annually awards one third or fourth grade student from Androscoggin County as its “Reader of the Year.” To be selected, students must demonstrate improved reading skills and a love for reading.

This year’s award was presented to Poland Community School student Bella Pelletier during an awards ceremony at the school on June 13. Bella was nominated for the award by her third grade teacher, Kimberly Simpson, and received a Kindle Fire and a gift card.

In addition, Central Maine CU awarded its Books for Kids summer reading grant to Farwell Elementary School. The grant is awarded annually to support programs that encourage children to read during the summer months. Farwell plans to use the grant to build the school’s summer reading program and encourage greater student participation.
