Volunteering enriches our society, brings communities together, and helps keep many Maine businesses and organizations afloat. Each year, credit union employees and volunteers contribute thousands of hours to volunteer for a number of causes and organizations. 2018 figures are still being tabulated, but in 2017, Maine credit unions supplied more than 41,000 hours. That’s on top of the 20,000 hours their volunteers contributed – culminating in approximately $1.3 million in donated time.
CUs Share for ME program helps the League track and quantify the volunteer efforts of our credit unions. The program also makes it easier for the League to share stories with the media, political leaders, and general public about all the great work that is being done in communities across the state. Jake Holmes, the League’s Financial Literacy Outreach Coordinator, often utilizes submitted forms to obtain the latest financial education figures.
“I report the credit unions’ financial literacy figures to the National Youth Involvement Board,” remarked Holmes. “Submitting those numbers tells the whole story of our efforts, which helps leverage our tax exempt status. The CUs Share for ME program is a significant aid in ensuring that all the hard work doesn’t go unnoticed. That’s why I strongly encourage everyone to submit the form monthly.”
You can complete your monthly report through a form on the League’s website. Forms should be submitted by the 10th of each month. If you have any questions about the CUs Share for ME program, email Jake Holmes at jholmes@mainecul.org or call 207.773.5671, ext. 266.
