From October 16-22, the celebration will be on at credit unions throughout Maine as International Credit Union Week takes place. "Maine is the fifth strongest credit union state in the country, in terms of percentage of the population who belong to a credit union, so this is a celebration that includes well over half the state. Additionally, many Maine CUs are opening their branches to give an opportunity for all consumers to learn about credit unions. ICU Week is a great awareness opportunity for Maine CUs," explained Jon Paradise, Vice President of Governmental & Public Affairs for the Maine CU League.
During ICU Week, supplements highlighting Maine's credit unions will appear in all seven of Maine's daily newspapers, as well as a number of the state's largest weekly newspapers. The Maine CU League has also coordinated more than 60 radio interviews and segments on radio stations across the state. The League has also secured significant mobile and online exposure through paid and earned media opportunities.
In his annual ICU Week letter congratulating Maine's credit unions, John Murphy, President of the Maine CU League, wrote, " For nearly 80 years, your League has been both an advocate and partner in highlighting the significant advantages and benefits of credit unions in the form of strong advocacy, awareness and cooperation. The theme of ICU Week this year, 'Credit Unions - The Authentic Difference', is focused on key points that we work hard to highlight through our political activities, awareness campaign and other messages. During ICU Week, the value, benefits and strengths of credit unions in Maine will again be highlighted through significant awareness efforts in CU Week supplements and media appearances that will reinforce the authentic difference of credit unions, as evidenced by a record 680,000 credit union members in Maine. Your League and Synergent, its service subsidiary, value our relationship and celebrate that cooperation that makes us stronger together, not only this week but throughout the year. Thank you for your support, and for the role you play in the lives of your members and the communities you serve."
Your League is also coordinating a social media campaign designed to engage members and consumers, and draw attention to Maine CUs with special posts available for CUs to re-post on their social media sites. FMI - please contact Debra Trautman, Vice President of Corporate Marketing for your League.
