It's not uncommon for credit unions to be contacted by local media outlets to comment on a recent news event or issue. Situations like this are fantastic opportunities to gain your credit union exposure in your area—for free, but they can be overwhelming! To help, your League is offering a special media training and public relations workshop in both Westbrook and Bangor on Thursday, December 3, and Tuesday, December 8, respectively.
The idea of media relations is often uncharted territory and can seem like a challenge to get your credit union's foot in the door. Your League understands these barriers and wants to make it possible for your credit union to ramp up media relations in your area. Your League's Vice President of Governmental & Public Affairs, Jon Paradise will be presenting the session, Is This Thing On? Working with the Media and Public Relations Training in both Westbrook and Bangor on the following dates (click on link to register):
• Credit Union Service Center, Westbrook | Thursday, December 3 | 9:00AM - 12:00PM
• Spectacular Event Center, Bangor | Tuesday, December 8 | 9:00AM - 12:00PM
Attendees will go over how to respond to media requests, what is considered public relations and what is not, and how to leverage existing media relationships. Your League will also be hosting a panel of local media professionals from radio, television, and newspaper to provide insight and answer questions. The panel will help attendees determine what works and what does not when it comes to media coverage.
Attendees will also cover writing media releases, receive a sample Media Kit, and get tips on how to customize one for your own credit union. These training sessions are great for CEOs, Marketers, Business Development staff, and Public Relations staff.
Lunch is included and will follow the training session at noon. To register click the links above, contact Susan Erlandson; or call your League's Member Services at 800.442.6715.
