BizKid$ Series Playing To Positive Feedback At Maine Children's Hospital

Kids at one of Maine's children's hospitals, the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital (BBCH) at Maine Medical Center, are enjoying the opportunity to watch episodes of the Emmy-Award winning financial literacy series, BizKid$, thanks to a contribution from your League and Maine's credit unions.  The entire collection of the first five seasons of BizKid$ was recently presented to BBCH and will be presented next month to Eastern Maine Medical Center.  BBCH Development Director, Matthew Parks, called the show "not only a welcome distraction for our young patients but an opportunity to learn, as well.  We appreciate the generosity of Maine's credit unions."

Jon Paradise, Vice President of Governmental and Public Affairs for your League, said the contribution of the BizKid$ DVDs to both hospitals is a way to support the Children's Miracle Network, an effort that the Bangor Chapter of CUs and several other Maine CUs also support.  CMN provides funding and other assistance to a number of children's hospitals nationwide including the two in Maine.  "Not only is this a way to help CMN but it also serves to further our involvement with youth financial literacy initiatives in Maine.  Unfortunately, the patients who are young adults often have lots of time on their hands, and the need for programming that is not only entertaining but has an education component is always there.  We are pleased to support CMN in Maine by funding this contribution."

Developed by the creators of the acclaimed Disney Presents Bill Nye the Science Guy, a show that made science fun for a similar audience, Biz Kid$ turns money and finance - a topic rarely covered in schools – into easy to learn concepts, kid-friendly comedy and amazing true stories of young entrepreneurs.  The show, which airs on a number of public television stations throughout the country, averages more than a million viewers per episode.

Funding for BizKid$ is provided in part by the Credit Union National Association (CUNA).
