Numbers matter, especially in politics! Maine's credit unions have a chance to reinforce the grassroots strength of credit unions by having a strong presence that is representative of the entire state at Maine CU Day at the State House happening on Thursday, April 2, 2015, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Join your League in attending this very important event!
"It's about filling the Hall of Flags so legislators can see for themselves how engaged and involved Maine's credit unions are in what is going on in Augusta. We have an opportunity to discuss our issues, concerns and highlight the importance of credit unions to 651,000 Maine consumers. Registrations are off to a solid start but our hope is to have a credit union representative from every district so we can make a personal connection with a legislator," explained Elise Baldacci, your League's Director of Governmental Affairs.
The timing of Maine CU Day at the State House comes as things are getting busier in the Legislature, and a number of credit union issues are being considered, with the most important one being proposed changes to foreclosure. Your League has already spent a significant amount of time discussing the importance of these changes with members of your League's Governmental Affairs Committee and prioritizing the bills we believe would be most helpful and demand the bulk of our attention.
Maine CU Day at the State House is open to all credit union staff and volunteers, and lunch and light refreshments will be provided. To help us best communicate with legislators when representatives from credit unions in their districts will be attending, your League asks anyone planning on attending to register with the approximate time they will be attending. Come for a few minutes or stay for the whole two hours.
