League Committing Significant Time In Augusta Building, Strengthening Legislative Relationships

With the pace of bills and hearings picking up at the Maine Legislature, your League is well-positioned and prepared.  In the coming weeks, hearings are scheduled on some of the 20 bills your League has already identified with that number growing each week.  Though none of the priority bills concerning foreclosure have been scheduled, your League has met with a number of legislators and leaders over the past few weeks laying the groundwork for ongoing communications on that and other important issues of interest to credit unions expected to be discussed and heard in the coming weeks and months.

"We've had many positive discussions about credit unions and some of our issues, concerns and priorities with legislators to provide a greater understanding of our persepctive as hearings on some of these issues get scheduled.  Dialogue and understanding is an important part of our advocacy efforts, and we have committed a significant amount of time developing and strengthening legislative relationships" said Elise Baldacci, your League's Director of Governmental Affairs.

Baldacci and/or your League's contract lobbyists, Ed and Cate Pineau, and Jon Courtney, have been in Augusta every day that hearings and/or session have been scheduled, so far.  "In addition to a strong League presence, we have had several credit union officials already participate in our Job Shadow A Legislator program with a number of job shadows coming up in March and April.  We encourage more credit union staff and volunteers to sign up to job shadow this session, as it is beneficial for everyone involved," added Baldacci.
