Your League has joined with the Cooperative Trust and Credit Union National Association (CUNA) to be a part of the 2015 'Crash the GAC' to send a representative from Maine as part of this year's Credit Union National Association (CUNA) Governmental Affairs Conference.
The 2015 Governmental Affairs Conference takes place March 8-12, and there are more than 75 representatives from Maine's credit unions including the second-ever GAC Crasher from Maine. Representing Maine's young credit union professionals at the Conference will be Michael Jackson, an e-commerce specialist at Town & Country FCU. Jackson was selected from a robust group of applicants from Maine CUs. "We were pleased with the level of interest in this opportunity, as the mission of 'Crash the GAC' is to get younger credit union staff involved and engaged in the legislative and political process. This was the first year that your League offered a scholarship directly for this program, and we look forward to having Michael as part of our group, hearing his perspective and following his experience," stated Debra Trautman, VP of Corporate Marketing for your League.
The 2015 CUNA GAC represents the first time that there will be 'crashers' from all fifty states attending. In addition to the core schedule of GAC events, Crashers will attend exclusive speaker sessions and explore opportunities for young adults to help promote credit unions locally and nationally. Speakers at Crash the GAC include guests from CUNA, NCUF, CUNA Mutual Group, Filene and more.
John Murphy, President of your League, said that 'Crash the GAC' fits into "our increased focus on having young credit union professionals have a greater presence in our activities and events. The Young Professionals Network (YPN) has already received a great deal of interest, and strong participation at the social events we have coordinated, so far, and understanding and being involved in political activities will be an important part of the development and evolution of the YPN as we move forward. It will be great to have Michael along as part of this year's Maine CU GAC Delegation."
