The deadline to nominate an individual or program for a 2026 Herb Wegner Memorial Award is quickly approaching. Nominations must be submitted by May 31.
Presented annually, the Herb Wegner Memorial Awards honor those making a meaningful impact on the credit union movement through leadership, innovation, and service. The awards recognize people and organizations whose work reflects the credit union philosophy of People Helping People while advancing financial well-being in their communities and across the industry.
The recognition is considered one of the credit union movement’s highest honors. In March of 2025, Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger was proudly recognized with a Herb Wegner Memorial Award, highlighting the long-standing impact of Maine’s credit unions in addressing food insecurity.
With the nomination period closing soon, now is the time to think about the leaders and changemakers who are making a difference. Whether it is a visionary professional or a program delivering measurable results, the awards provide an opportunity to highlight the stories shaping our movement.
Those planning to submit a nomination are encouraged to begin gathering recommendation letters as soon as possible. Each nomination requires between five and ten personal recommendations, and these testimonials often play an important role in showcasing the nominee’s impact and dedication.
The Herb Wegner Memorial Awards continue to celebrate the individuals and organizations that embody the core values of the credit union movement and demonstrate a strong commitment to improving financial well-being for all. Click here for more information or to apply.
