Check fraud continues to rise across the country, making member education one of the most effective tools credit unions have to help prevent losses before they occur.
To support those efforts, America’s Credit Unions and the American Association of Credit Union Leagues have partnered with America Saves to launch Check Yourself: Stop Check Fraud Before it Starts—a month-long consumer awareness campaign beginning August 3.
The campaign provides credit unions with a ready-to-use communications toolkit designed to educate members about common check fraud scams, warning signs, and steps they can take to protect themselves. Resources include social media graphics and videos, newsletter content, blog posts, and other educational materials that can be shared throughout the month.
Each week focuses on a different aspect of check fraud:
- August 3 – 7: What is Check Fraud?
- August 10 – 14: Types of Check Fraud
- August 17 – 21: How to Detect Check Fraud
- August 24 – 28: What to Do if You’re a Victim of Check Fraud
With fraud continuing to evolve, this turnkey campaign offers an easy way for credit unions to keep members informed while reinforcing their role as a trusted source of financial guidance. We encourage Maine credit unions to take advantage of these free resources and join the nationwide effort to raise awareness throughout August.
