Giving Tuesday, an annual day of international generosity, is just around the corner, taking place on Tuesday, December 2. Following the Thanksgiving holiday as well as days like Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday is perfectly timed to remind those who can to give back to their communities. Here in Maine, our movement is focused on our shared mission to end hunger.
With your help, we can meet our goal of providing 3,500 meals from funds raised on Giving Tuesday alone for Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger—a special goal to celebrate the Campaign’s 35th anniversary year. If every credit union in the state donated $35, the Campaign would achieve this goal in support of our neighbors in need!
Given the current surge in demand at hunger relief organizations across the state, monetary support is critical to ensure our communities have access to the necessary nutrition needed to survive and thrive. As we approach the cold weather when household expenses rise (to cover heating costs and other home winterization), many Maine families’ budgets will tighten to make ends meet—leading far too many to rely on the services of food pantries near them. However, pantries are struggling to maintain a sufficient supply to meet community needs.
Our credit union movement has strength in numbers. United, we continuously show up to improve the lives of all Mainers—and it makes a big difference in every community. This Giving Tuesday, we hope your credit union will help us once again reach a goal for Mainers in need in our collective fight against food insecurity.
