Volunteerism is a standout way that credit unions demonstrate the People Helping People spirit in their local communities year-round. Tracking and reporting those efforts are crucial to helping our League advocate for credit unions through statewide awareness campaigns, earned media, and both state and federal advocacy.
Here in Maine, our volunteerism is strong. Each year, we see an increase in the hours reported through our volunteer tracking tool, showcasing how credit unions continue to find new and creative ways to give back. In 2025 alone, Maine credit unions reported 36,146.84 hours in volunteer time. According to the Independent Sector, these efforts are worth approximately $1,257,548.56. By reporting your credit union’s hours to the League, you help us accurately highlight the important work being done by our state’s movement in a variety of circumstances—showing the power of collaboration, connection, and community.
New in 2026, our League is requesting that credit unions also share through the form how many of their total reported hours were for Campaign for Ending Hunger/food insecurity initiatives to help us quantify Campaign volunteer impact specifically. For example, Campaign efforts include things like serving meals through a local meal program, packing boxes of food at your local food pantry, credit union-led fundraisers for the Campaign, etc.
Please continue reporting your credit union’s volunteerism monthly. The reporting process will not be changing; however, there will be one additional field required in the form to note how many of your overall hours are specific to Campaign efforts. If you’ve already completed your reporting for January, February, and March, please email Lauren Simonds to note how many of your total hours submitted were for ending hunger. If you still need to report those hours, please proceed with your form submission as usual.
Please reach out to Simonds with any questions regarding this update.
