At the core of the credit union movement is our shared People Helping People philosophy—a guiding principle for all credit unions. Here in Maine, credit unions dedicate an incredible amount of time to supporting local communities and organizations through volunteering, offering critical assistance in a wide variety of ways. From supporting efforts that fight food insecurity to uplifting animal shelters, community groups, and programs like Special Olympics Maine, these interactions have lasting impacts on neighbors in all communities and demonstrate our industry’s commitment to community.
Our League collects and quantifies our credit unions’ collective philanthropic efforts to showcase the dedication of Maine’s credit union movement through stories shared with the media, political leaders, and the public—but we can’t do that without your help! Now is the perfect time to report your credit union’s volunteer hours for 2025 if you have not already been reporting them monthly. All 2025 hours must be submitted to the League by January 9, 2026 to allow time to compile our collective totals and impact ahead of the Ending Hunger Results Luncheon. As a reminder, credit unions with the most volunteer hours reported are recognized for their efforts annually at the Luncheon.
Hours should be submitted through the Volunteer Tracking tool on the League’s website. Guidelines for what does and does not count towards your submission are also provided for reference. Though, if you have any questions regarding volunteer tracking and/or would like to see what has already been reported for your credit union in 2025, please contact Lauren Simonds at lsimonds@mainecul.org.
Thank you for making a meaningful difference in your local communities in 2025.
