Jen Burke, League Vice President of Outreach & Strategic Initiatives, and Jared Gay, League Director of Advocacy & Compliance, attend the AACUL Winter Meeting.
Each year, the American Association of Credit Union Leagues’ (AACUL) Winter Meeting brings together some of the most influential voices in the credit union system. This year was no exception. Leaders from America’s Credit Unions, TruStage, the World Council of Credit Unions, leagues from across the country, and trusted industry partners convened with a shared purpose: to strengthen, grow, and champion the credit union movement.
For the Maine Credit Union League, participating in this gathering is far more than a professional obligation—it is an investment in collaboration, innovation, and advocacy that directly benefits credit unions in our state.
Collaboration at the Core of the Credit Union Advantage
Unlike other sectors in the financial industry, credit unions understand that meaningful progress happens when we work together. The Winter Meeting exemplifies this philosophy. Within this unique network, ideas are not just exchanged—they are elevated. Participants share best practices, address emerging challenges, and find new opportunities to highlight the credit union difference in an increasingly competitive marketplace.
This spirit of cooperation is central to who we are. When the credit union system collaborates, our collective advocacy becomes stronger, our operational insights become sharper, and our ability to support our members and communities becomes more impactful.
Networking, Education, and Shared Expertise
The value of bringing together leaders from across the credit union system cannot be overstated. The Winter Meeting provides national insights, updates from industry innovators, and candid discussions about the trends shaping our future. This year, discussions included evolving payments channels, fraud prevention strategies, and the emerging role of stablecoins. These conversations help our League refine our own strategies and outreach, ensuring that our efforts remain aligned with broader system priorities—while still reflecting the needs of Maine’s credit unions and their members.
Just as important, the meeting facilitates connections that carry forward long after the conference ends. Relationships with peers, system partners, and credit union executives strengthen our ability to collaborate throughout the year.
A Trusted Space for Honest Dialogue and Unified Advocacy
One of the most valuable aspects of AACUL’s Winter Meeting is the creation of a trusted environment where open, solution-focused conversations can take place. Whether discussing regulatory challenges, emerging legislative priorities, or new opportunities to elevate member experiences, participants engage in meaningful dialogue that unifies our voice and reaffirms why working in this industry is so special.
This shared prioritization is critical—especially as the movement prepares for a year ahead that will require coordinated, responsive, and proactive advocacy at both the state and federal levels. By participating in these strategic discussions, our League helps to ensure Maine credit unions are well represented and well informed.
Elevating the Credit Union Advantage—Together
Our involvement in AACUL’s Winter Meeting is a reminder of the strength we gain when we act collectively. The conference reinforces the movement’s commitment to cooperation, communication, and member-focused advocacy. It also reaffirms that when system partners and leagues come together, we create a powerful, united force for good.
Participation in this meeting helps the Maine Credit Union League bring home fresh perspectives, actionable insights, and stronger relationships—all of which enhance the support we provide to you, our member credit unions, and the communities you proudly serve every day.
