League to Host Virtual Collections Conference in December


Registration is open for the League’s virtual Collections Conference featuring attorney Christy Jones. This two-day event, taking place December 1 and 2, will cover the latest changes to laws, regulations, and rulings, as well as topics requested by Maine credit unions.

Jones’ presentation will cover the following:

  • FDCPA: New rules become effective November 30, 2021. Learn how to prepare and monitor for compliance with the latest requirements.
  • Repossession Issues: This session will cover sample repossession procedures and get a full understanding of UCC requirements. It also will cover Right to Cure letters, Notices of Sale letters, and Notice of Surplus or Deficiency letters.
  • Dealing with the Problem Member: During this presentation, items discussed will include sovereign citizens, terminating membership, refusing membership, and members who constantly dispute credit reports.
  • Adopting an Effective Collections Mindset During a Pandemic: This is a soft skills session designed to help keep collectors from burning out during an historically stressful time.
  • Lessons Learned from Navy FCU: What did Navy FCU get wrong and what can we learn? In this session, we will discuss improper collection threats, freezing and setting off funds, and ways to spot weaknesses in our own letters and procedures.
