CU Youth Month Tip of the Week: Talking to Your Kids About Money

(From the Financial Literacy Blog) – Are you talking to your kids about money?

Make it a conversation, not a lecture.

By talking to them instead of with them, their engagement is limited. Additionally, associating finances with less than enjoyable lectures only fuels the existing stigma and taboo about discussing finances.

One of the most effective ways to engage your children in fiscal conversations is to ask them questions that encourage them to find their own answers. Ask questions like, “Why do we need money?” Their answers can help guide your conversation and instill confidence when it comes to discussing money as they grow older.
