CU News & Events – November Edition


The holiday season quickly emerged, and our credit unions wasted no time celebrating with their members and communities. From food drives to participating in local events, credit union staff showed up to give back. Here are just a few ways our credit unions carried out our People Helping People philosophy in November:

  • Acadia FCU sold raffle tickets to benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Employees from Atlantic FCU delivered pies to local fire and police departments to demonstrate their appreciation for those who protect and serve.
  • Bangor FCU decorated their branches for the holidays and made ornaments that members can purchase to benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Brewer FCU partnered with Z107.3 on November 16 to collect turkeys and donations at the Brewer Hannaford Supermarket.
  • From November 1 to November 22, Capital Area FCU matched every $5 donation made by members to Maine Credit Unions’ Holiday Meals for Mainers initiative.
  • Casco FCU held a holiday food drive at Plummer’s Shop ’n Save to collect items and monetary donations for food pantries in the community.
  • Central Maine FCU sold raffle tickets as part of the Take a Chance to End Hunger Raffle for Patriots tickets.
  • Changing Seasons FCU assisted United Way of Eastern Maine in collecting sock donations for its sock drive. Socks are the most requested item in shelters and community centers.
  • Community CU shared tips for dealing with holiday stress and budgeting on social media to put members at ease.
  • Connected CU set up their annual giving tree for the Maine Children’s Home. Members were encouraged to stop by the Augusta or Winslow branch to choose a tag.
  • cPort CU released the winners of their 2022 calendar contest. Winning photos are featured in the upcoming calendar. Members can pick up a free calendar by visiting cPort CU’s Portland, Scarborough, or Augusta branches.
  • Cumberland County FCU recognized Herb Hoppe, Chairman of the Supervisory Committee, for his 20 years of service. Thank you for being a dedicated volunteer, Herb!
  • Dirigo FCU held a Thanksgiving gift card raffle in their branches. Winners received a $100 gift card to Hannaford to help with holiday meal costs.
  • Downeast CU collected baby item donations in their lobbies to help local food pantries stock up on goods for families with infants. Donations included baby formula, baby foods, diapers, wipes, and more.
  • Eastmill FCU included “Top Tips for Avoiding Fraud and Scams” in their fall newsletter to protect members’ personal and/or account information.
  • Evergreen CU partnered with the community to support the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland for the Shelter Sleep. The community raised over $150,000. Cole Rowland of Evergreen CU raised $3,200 on his own. Congrats, Cole!
  • Five County CU chose the Campaign for Ending Hunger as its fourth quarter charity and encouraged members to make a donation to the Campaign.
  • Gardiner FCU sold 50/50 raffle tickets, with half of the proceeds going towards the Campaign for Ending Hunger and half going to the winner.
  • Infinity CU launched For All Maine-Kind™, a new advertising campaign. The campaign is complemented by a newly designed website to reflect Infinity CU’s updated brand.
  • Katahdin FCU partnered with Brookfield Renewable in “Keeping the Katahdin Region Warm” by collecting hats and mittens to pair up with jackets purchased by Brookfield.
  • KSW FCU drew winners from their cash calendar every business day during the month of November.
  • KV FCU sold cash calendars to support the Campaign for Ending Hunger and fight food insecurity in Maine. Drawings will be held in December.
  • Lincoln Maine FCU motivated members to donate to the Campaign for Ending Hunger by promoting the Maine Credit Unions’ Holiday Meals for Mainers initiative on social media.
  • Lisbon Community FCU drew names to select the winners from their November cash calendar. Prizes ranged from $50 to $350 and members could win more than once. All proceeds benefitted the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Maine Highlands FCU featured employee work anniversaries in its fall newsletter. Congratulations to everyone celebrating a work milestone!
  • Maine Savings FCU presented a donation to the Free the Z Turkey Drive held by Z107.3. This turkey drive collects turkeys and donations to help feed the local communities.
  • Maine State CU held its semi-annual Online Auction to End Hunger in Maine. Proceeds from the auction will help provide financial support to over 30 food pantries and shelters in Central Maine.
  • Midcoast FCU’s card operations team volunteered their time to tidy up Freeport’s Grove and Woodlawn Cemeteries.
  • Milestones FCU launched its winter 2022 Skip-A-Payment, running from November 1 through January 31.
  • Monmouth FCU collected nonperishable food items to donate to the Rural Community Action Ministry to support local families.
  • New Dimensions FCU’s Augusta and Waterville branches sold Thanksgiving pies to benefit Special Olympics Maine and the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • NorState FCU members and staff donated food, litter, cleaning supplies, and cash to local animal shelters, including PAWs in Fort Kent and the Central Aroostook Humane Society.
  • Northeast CU partnered with Honor Flight New England and Honor Flight Maine to sell Honor Flight Stars. All funds were donated directly to Honor Flight to help the organization bring veterans to the memorials standing in their honor.
  • OTIS FCU drew the first week of winners for their cash calendar giveaway. Four weeks of drawings remain with a total cash prize payout of $1,100. Calendar proceeds benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Oxford FCU featured businesses of the month and encouraged members to shop local and shop small this holiday season.
  • Penobscot County FCU proudly announced their participation in the Greenlight A Vet campaign. This initiative shows appreciation and visible national support for American veterans when they’re back home and out of uniform.
  • PeoplesChoice CU reminded members to take a chance to see the Patriots play at Gillette Stadium by purchasing a raffle ticket to benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Sabattus Regional CU began accepting year-end donations for their annual holiday raffle. Donations will support the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Saco Valley CU continued featuring employees on social media to introduce hardworking staff to the members they serve.
  • Seaboard FCU’s newsletter shared tips for avoiding COVID-19 scams to protect their members.
  • Sebasticook Valley FCU sold holiday cash calendars to benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger. Drawings will be held every day in December and cash prizes range from $20 to $500.
  • The County FCU sponsored the Caribou Volunteer Fire Department’s Christmas in Caribou event the weekend of November 27 and 28.
  • Town & Country FCU’s poll for their Better Neighbor Fund grants came to a close with over 10,000 votes. They awarded a total of $25,000 to nine different charities as a part of their ‘Local Helping Local’ initiative.
  • Trademark FCU shared tips to help members be mindful of holiday scams.
  • Throughout the month, TruChoice FCU shared holiday shopping tips on social media and in their financial wellness blog.
  • In support of the Campaign for Ending Hunger, University CU announced their plan to match up to $25,000 in donations from November until December 31.
