CU News & Events – June Edition


Summer in Maine is here and credit unions across the state are ushering in the season with donations to nonprofit organizations, scholarships to area graduates, and contributions to the Ending Hunger $100,000 Challenge. Here is a brief snapshot of what some of our credit unions were up to in June.

  • Acadia FCU started celebrating Popcorn Fridays. Bags cost $1 and proceeds go to the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Atlantic FCU gave back to their community by donating money to the Campaign for Ending Hunger every time a member used their Atlantic FCU debit card.
  • Bangor FCU supported the Ellsworth Area Chamber of Commerce by attending Timber Tina’s Great Maine Lumberjack Show.
  • Brewer FCU had a celebration to kick-off the first Friday of summer with free ice cream and a chance to help end hunger in Maine.
  • Capital Area FCU celebrated its first annual employee cornhole tournament to benefit Special Olympics of Maine.
  • Casco FCU held a fundraiser collecting personal care items for the Buxton Food Co-Op.
  • Central Maine FCU donated $2,000 and pet supplies for the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society during National Adopt-A-Shelter-Cat Month. 
  • Changing Seasons FCU accepted Piscataquis Community Secondary School’s 2021 JMG Compass Award. Congratulations!
  • Coast Line CU announced it will be awarding four $1,000 scholarships to students continuing their education.
  • Community CU congratulated President/CEO Jennifer Hogan for being awarded the Ray Geiger Chamber Champion Award!
  • Connected CU raffled off summer outdoor gear at both its Winslow and Augusta branches.
  • cPort CU was awarded the 2021 Champion Award by the Portland Regional Chamber. This award recognizes their efforts to strengthen the foundation of the Portland region through their work to promote racial and social justice.
  • Cumberland County FCU announced several promotions: Sarah Blovet to Vice President of Service Center Operations, Kristy O’Donnell to Vice President of Branch Operations, Sherry Clark to Branch Service Manager – Westbrook Branch, and Jami Gillis to Branch Service Manager – Portland Branch. Congratulations!
  • Dirigo FCU sponsored Saint Dominic Academy’s golf tournament.
  • Downeast CU donated 219 pounds of backpack snacks to local food pantries and a cash contribution to the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Eastmill CU supported the Campaign for Ending Hunger by making donations to local food pantries.
  • Evergreen CU announced it will be offering new hire incentives—increasing its minimum hourly rate for employees to $18 per hour!
  • Five County CU congratulated employee Jennifer Anderson, who was presented the Citizen of the Year Award from Regional 10 Tech School.
  • Gardiner FCU proudly announced Hillary Lessner Greenleaf, a loan officer at Gardiner FCU, was inducted as the newest member of the Augusta Kiwanis Club.
  • Infinity CU employees got new headshots taken by Justine Johnson Photography.
  • KSW FCU sponsored the Arts in the Park event in Belfast.
  • KV FCU announced their 2021 scholarship recipients. Congratulations to Kerrigan attending Bates College, Madeline attending Husson University, and Timothy attending Thomas College!
  • Lincoln Maine FCU brought pizza, chips, and soda to the staff at Mattanawcook Junior High School.
  • Lisbon Community FCU celebrated several birthdays this month! Happy birthday to Derek Roberts, Tonya Donovan, Nancy Linehan, and Loni Knoedler.
  • Maine Highlands FCU celebrated several employee anniversaries. Congratulations to Anna-Maria, Sam Dwyer, Shelley Blockler, Cathy Bemis, Tina Roberts, Melissa Smith, Candice Qualey, Mandy Turner, David Bridges, Rachel Maheu, and KJ Gosselin!
  • Maine Savings FCU helped Charleston Fire Department secure a grant for a generator. This generator will help the fire department effectively serve the town if the power goes out.
  • Maine State CU announced three promotions. Congratulations to Faye Tibbets, Becky Miner, and Shelley Rowe for being promoted to AVP of their departments!
  • Midcoast FCU made over $7,000 worth of donations to food organizations that fight hunger in its community.
  • Monmouth FCU held its 67th Annual Meeting.
  • New Dimensions FCU partnered with Bacon Farm Maple Products to help end hunger! For every 11 cones a customer purchases, Bacon Farm Maple Products will donate $5 to the Ending Hunger Campaign through New Dimensions FCU.
  • Northeast CU announced the selection of Christopher “Chris” Parker as the organization’s next President/Chief Executive Officer. Welcome, Chris!
  • NorState FCU announced the winners of the 2021 scholarships! Congratulations to Mya Eno, Emma Pelletier, Justin Pelletier, Brooke Haley Caron, Emily Gendreau, Abigail Ayotte.
  • OTIS FCU sold reusable grocery totes to support the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Oxford FCU announced their 2021 scholarship recipients. Congratulations to Kaitlyn Buck, Jasmine Dixon, Alaina Adderley, Elizabeth Johnson, Gabrielle Gallant!
  • Penobscot County FCU welcomed some new faces! Welcome to Brandon, Jamie, Tiffany, Susan, Julia, Anthony, Samantha, and Meghann.
  • The Board at PeoplesChoice CU approved a $5,000 donation to support the Ending Hunger $100,000 Challenge!
  • Saco Valley CU was a presenting sponsor of the 50th Annual Saco Main Street Sidewalk Arts Festival held on June 26.
  • Sabattus Regional CU wore purple on June 15th to support Elder Abuse Awareness Month.
  • Seaboard FCU announced the winners of the 2021 scholarships. Congratulations to A. Flannery, L. Parker, S. Sheehan, A. Snowman, and M. Tripp.
  • Sebasticook Valley FCU had a yard sale at its Newport branch and all proceeds went to the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • The County FCU announced it will be upgrading their online banking platform this summer!
  • Town & Country FCU raffled off a 2021 Maine State Park Season Pass on Facebook.
  • Trademark FCU had cash giveaways at its ITMs to celebrate their first anniversary of being installed.
  • TruChoice FCU gave away three four-packs of Sea Dogs tickets.
  • University CU donated new and gently used books to United Way of Greater Portland’s Books and Baseball event.
  • Winthrop Area FCU wished a happy birthday to Darlene and Sarah!
