CU News and Events October Edition


October brought a flurry of activities. On top of raising awareness for Cybersecurity Awareness Month and International Credit Union Day, many credit unions celebrated members, Halloween, and their communities, all while enjoying the fall season. Here is a snapshot of what some of our credit unions were up to last month:

  • To bring some excitement amidst the cold weather creeping in, Acadia FCU employees participated in a spirit week. Themes included flannel, pink day, National Pumpkin Day, sports, and a Best Places to Work in Maine t-shirt day.
  • Atlantic FCU was a proud sponsor of Marine Mammals of Maine’s (MMoME) 8th Annual Ocean Commotion 5k on October 15. The funds allow MMoME to assist sea turtles and marine mammals throughout the midcoast and southern Maine regions.
  • Bangor FCU employees celebrated Halloween in costumes. Staff dressed in a variety of disguises to spread cheer in their branches.
  • On October 29, Brewer FCU supported the Brewer Historical Society’s Spaghetti Supper and Auction to benefit the Archie Verow Scholarship Fund. The event was held at the Brewer Auditorium.
  • For International Credit Union Day, Capital Area FCU hosted members with snacks and cider. Staff dressed up to represent various countries and prizes were given away to members throughout the day.
  • Casco FCU held an International Credit Union Day bake sale to benefit the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Central Maine CU recognized International Credit Union Day with a $100 VISA gift card drawing, a wheel of prizes, and lunch on the credit union.
  • Changing Seasons FCU employees put a fun spin on Halloween, each dressing up as a different season! Staff used their imaginations, with costumes including fall, winter, hunting season, gardening season, concert season, tax season, and more.
  • Coastline CU began advertising their Holiday Skip-A-Pay as a benefit to their members.
  • Liz Campbell-Brown and Andrew Lunn from Community CU were each named t0 Uplift L.A.’s Finest Under 40 list for Best in Mission-Based Organizations and Best in Financial Services respectively. Congratulations, Liz and Andrew!
  • Connected CU offered soup, a fresh roll, and a bottle of water to-go on October 27 and 28 for $6. All funds were directed to the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Teams from cPort CU displayed Halloween spirit with a costume contest! Team themes included the Muppets, Star Wars, Sesame Street, Ghostbusters, scarecrows, and 90’s punk.
  • Cumberland County FCU branches competed in a pumpkin decorating contest! The Oscar the Grouch pumpkin brought the Gray team a win, with Westbrook and Falmouth taking second and third.
  • Dirigo FCU’s 3rd Annual Bowling Tournament had a terrific turnout! Collectively, $4,500 was raised for the Campaign for Ending Hunger. Great job, Team Dirigo!
  • For International Credit Union Day, Downeast CU welcomed members with snacks, giveaways, and door prizes.
  • On October 19, Eastmill FCU held a reception to celebrate Dan Byron’s retirement and thank him for his many years of dedicated service to the credit union. The reception also provided the credit union’s members an opportunity to meet Derek Hebert, the new President/CEO. Congratulations, Dan, on your retirement, and welcome, Derek, to the Eastmill FCU family!
  • On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, Evergreen CU’s employees gathered to volunteer in their community. Some employees headed to the trails maintained by the Presumpscot Regional Land Trust while others assisted a local food pantry.
  • With funds raised from members and staff, Five County CU donated $2,500 to Maine Wildlife Transport.
  • Kaylee from Gardiner FCU celebrated five years with the credit union. Congratulations, Kaylee, on your work-a-versary!
  • Infinity CU featured Russell Butts, AVP of Branch Sales, in their Employee Highlight for how much he cares about Infinity FCU’s members.
  • Staff from Katahdin FCU hosted a delicious dinner. The credit union’s Social Responsibility Committee cooked a spaghetti dinner and all proceeds raised at the dinner benefitted the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Partnered with Rollies, KSW FCU held a membership celebration with free lunch.
  • KV FCU raffled off a 50” TV, Patriots-themed light-up LED cornhole, a Patriots tailgate kit, two fold-out chairs with a table, and a slow cooker for their Kick Off to End Hunger.
  • On October 20, Lincoln Maine FCU held their Member Appreciation Day. Members of Synergent’s ARM team joined in on the fun, visiting while the credit union showered members in gratification. CEO Ryan Reed even wore an ice cream costume to match the ice cream truck.
  • After 37 years with Lisbon Community FCU, Robin Arsenault, Loan Officer, retired! She plans to spend time with her son, daughter, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, as well as engaging in more of her hobbies. Thank you for your many years of service, Robin, and have a happy and healthy retirement!
  • Maine Family FCU joined the community at Lost Valley for some Trunk or Treat fun at the Annual Fall Fest.
  • Maine Highlands FCU recognized employee anniversaries in their fall newsletter. Thank you all for your dedication to your members and your communities!
  • On its website, Maine Media FCU advertised a monthly Starbuck gift card give-away. Bring in a new member to the credit union for a chance to win a coffee card.
  • Maine Savings FCU began collecting donations for their supply drive for the Kennebec Valley Humane Society.
  • At their Fall Treats & Eats event on October 28, Maine State CU sold lunch items and snacks to raise money for the Campaign for Ending Hunger. They raised over $1,100, exceeding their goal of $800. Nice work!
  • Halloween festivities brought Midcoast FCU employees together as they dressed up in themed team costumes both in the branches and remotely.
  • Milestones FCU shared information with members in their newsletter about Credit Union Week, which ran October 17-21. The credit union also coordinated activities, giveaways, and drawings!
  • To show how much they appreciate the staff, New Dimensions FCU’s CEO Ryan Poulin and CFO Jason Michaud rotated through the branches and cooked up yummy pumpkin pancakes for breakfast.
  • NorState FCU participated in numerous Trunk or Treats to enjoy the holiday with their community.
  • Northeast CU congratulated Tom Mersereau on his promotion to Senior Manager of Service Management and Delivery. Congratulations, Tom!
  • OTIS FCU sold reusable grocery totes for Ending Hunger and sold out. They raised $237.68.
  • Fully equipped with pig costumes, a handful of staff from Oxford FCU took to Trunk or Treat to discuss piggy banks, Halloween, and all things credit unions.
  • As a way to engage with members on International Credit Union Day, Penobscot County FCU ran a credit union trivia quiz on Facebook. Winners for each of the eight questions won $20 gift cards.
  • Staff from PeoplesChoice CU assisted in the facilitation of Massabesic High School’s Financial Fitness Fair.
  • On each Wednesday, Sabattus Regional CU staff wore pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. They also enjoyed a spirit week.
  • On October 14, Saco Valley CU held a spaghetti dinner at the Biddeford Eagles for $8 per person, raising money for the Campaign for Ending Hunger.
  • Seaboard FCU shared budgeting tips with members to help them face a brighter financial future.
  • Members appreciated snacks, giveaways, and door prizes at Sebasticook Valley FCU for International Credit Union Day.
  • The County FCU employees wore pink on October 13, Breast Cancer Awareness Day.
  • Town & Country FCU was a major sponsor of the annual Maine Women’s Conference, which took place on October 25 at the Holiday Inn by the Bay in Portland. Chelsea Torrey, a Mortgage Loan Officer with the credit union, was a featured speaker and led a workshop called, “Financial Resilience in the Face of Change.”
  • Trademark FCU sponsored Trunk or Treat at the South Portland Community Center on October 29. Attendees enjoyed crafts, candy, a bounce house, and more.
  • TruChoice FCU sponsored the Iris Network’s virtual White Cane Walk for Independence. The walk allows for more training, education, and support for people with vision loss within the state.
  • Cider and donuts made their way into University CU’s branches for International Credit Union Day.
  • October 21 brought about Winthrop Area FCU’s Pink Friday fundraiser. They sold pink items and various baked goodies to support the Alfond Cancer Center.
