The Aroostook Chapter of Maine Credit Unions is pleased to announce that James Lamarre, a student at Fort Kent Community High School, is the recipient of a $1,000 scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to a local high school student who participated in the Chapter’s Financial Fitness Fair—a collaborative initiative hosted by four Aroostook County credit unions: Acadia FCU, NorState FCU, The County FCU, and University CU.
In November, the Financial Fitness Fair brought together high school seniors from across Aroostook County for an interactive and engaging financial literacy experience. Through a hands-on budgeting simulation, students navigated real-life financial scenarios that challenged them to create and manage a personal budget. This practical exercise provided valuable insight into everyday financial responsibilities and helped build skills that will serve them well beyond high school.
As part of the program, participating students were invited to apply for a $1,000 scholarship to support their post-secondary education or vocational training goals. The Financial Fitness Fair and accompanying scholarship reflect the Aroostook Chapter of Maine Credit Unions’ ongoing commitment to empowering local youth and strengthening financial education within their communities.
