A Message to CUs from League President/CEO Todd Mason

In some ways, it feels like the last two weeks have been two months. Our credit unions have been working overtime, putting in countless hours to ensure member needs are being met during this challenging time. The work you all are doing is nothing short of exceptional. I understand this is not an easy time for anyone and I have a profound sense of pride for the professionalism and compassion our credit unions have exhibited during this period. I will carry this sentiment with me long after this emergency is over.

Keep doing what you are doing! Your efforts are making a difference. Whether it’s a loan or payment deferment to a member in need, a donation to your local food pantry, or even a friendly smile in the drive-through lane, your actions have a positive impact. The credit union difference matters—now more than ever! That is one of the reasons why we are taking a temporary departure from our “Own it.” campaign messaging to “Maine Credit Unions are here for you!”

Maine credit unions also are here for our employees—over 2,000 strong! Credit unions are doing everything possible to ensure their facilities remain clean and safe for members, but also for staff who are continuing to provide essential services while many Maine workers stay home. This is undoubtedly a stressful time for credit union employees, and I want to thank everyone for showing up, carrying on, and operating so calmly in circumstances that are anything but normal.

From a League perspective, we will continue providing your credit unions the support you need to continue your phenomenal efforts! From calls to email updates to resources on our website, we will make sure the flow of consistent information continues. If there is anything you need that we are not providing, please don’t hesitate to reach to me or a member of my team. We’re here for you!

I don’t know what next week will bring, but I do know our network will persevere. Our People Helping People foundation grounds us, and will keep us resilient in the days, weeks, and months ahead.

Take care!
