A Message From Todd Mason: By Working Together, We Set Ourselves Apart

All year long, credit unions across Maine raise thousands of dollars to support the Campaign for Ending Hunger. But last month, we challenged you to do more.

In honor of National Hunger Awareness Month, we asked you to participate in the Ending Hunger $100,000 Challenge. This monthlong initiative aimed to raise $100,000 for our hunger-relief partners in 30 days. To reach our fundraising goals, we not only needed your credit union’s engagement, we needed the support of your members, vendors—even your own families—to make a donation to the Campaign.

You heard our call for help, and you answered it in a big way. Thanks to your overwhelming support and unwavering commitment to this Campaign, we exceeded our goal and raised $110,000! This money will go a long way in ensuring our friends at Good Shepherd Food Bank, community food pantries, and meal sites have the funds they need to feed hungry Mainers in the weeks and months ahead.

There is no stopping what credit unions can do when we all work together, and I cannot thank you enough for getting behind this effort. I am incredibly proud of our results and I hope you are too. Use this optimism as motivation for your fundraising efforts throughout the remainder of this year. We have momentum and we can’t afford to slow down now!

As a cooperative community, we enjoy collaborating with peers and members on important initiatives. I’d be remiss if I did not inform you about an online social media blitz that is taking place on July 30. While it is not hunger-related, it is designed to raise awareness about the credit union difference and the work we do to support our members, communities, and causes, like our own Campaign for Ending Hunger.

By sharing your enthusiasm for your credit union with your social media followers using the common hashtag #ilovemycreditunion, and encouraging them to do the same, we will highlight what sets credit unions apart from other financial institutions. You can find more information about this effort here and through the resource hub that has been created to support leagues and credit unions that are participating in this initiative.

Thank you again for your support of the Campaign for Ending Hunger, for each other, and for our credit union movement. Together, we achieve so much more.
