The Ending Hunger Committee at Community CU is pleased to announce the results from its 1st Annual Signature Soup Challenge. This successful initiative raised $1,150 to support Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger.

To conduct the challenge, the credit union partnered with three local businesses, Webb’s Market and Marcos Ristorante Italiano in Lewiston, and Buck-It Bar & Grill in Buckfield. A portion of the April sales of each business’ signature chili, soup, or chowder was donated to the Campaign. Webb’s Market sold the most bowls and was declared the official winner of the 1st Annual Signature Soup Challenge. Angello’s General Store in Turner also donated $100 toward this effort.

Community CU has been participating in the Campaign for Ending Hunger since its inception in 1990 and raised over $5,000 to distribute to local hunger-relief organizations last year. The team has a goal to raise over $10,000 to support the Campaign in 2021.
