Town & Country Federal Credit Union Launches 8th Annual Better Neighbor Fund for Area Non-Profits

Scarborough, Maine — September 4, 2018 – Town & Country Federal Credit Union’s 2018 Better Neighbor Fund charitable giving campaign kicked-off today.

Since 2010, Town & Country has granted over $200,000 to support 64 local charitable programs through the Better Neighbor Fund.  This fall, the credit union will grant another $25,000 to local non-profit organizations across Southern Maine through the online program.

Town & Country President & CEO David Libby said this year’s Better Neighbor Fund grants will go to eight non-profit charitable organizations from across Cumberland and York Counties to fund special projects and new initiatives designed to support the community.

Town & Country will be accepting entries for the 2018 Better Neighbor Fund from now through September 25th. The first 25 applicants that best meet the qualification criteria will be selected as nominees and advance to the public voting phase, which will take place on Town & Country’s Facebook page during the month of October.

To be eligible for a Better Neighbor Fund grant, nominations must meet the following criteria:

  • Apply for a specific project or initiative. (Better Neighbor Fund grants cannot be awarded to support general operations)
  • Include an impact statement which identifies how and why the proposed project meets the needs of the community.
  • The project/initiative must be completed within 12 months of receiving the grant.

It is easy for an organization to submit a nomination. They can simply go to the credit union’s website, https://www.tcfcu.com/better-neighbor/better-neighbor-fund and complete the online application to nominate a project or initiative. The 25 eligible nominees that advance to the voting phase will be announced on October 1st.

The public voting period begins October 1st and ends October 31st on Town & Country’s Facebook page. The organizations that get the most online votes will be the winning recipients of the eight grants.

Libby said it is important for the 25 nominees to promote their cause to generate as many votes as possible. He suggested using newsletters, email, Facebook, Twitter and any other creative methods to reach supporters, friends, family, and coworkers to ask for their votes. People are invited to vote once a day, every day.

Grant recipients will be announced at a special evening event on Thursday, November 8th at the Town & Country Center in Scarborough, ME.

“We know there are many organizations involved in countless worthwhile projects in the community and we are excited to provide an opportunity to fund some of these initiatives through the Better Neighbor Fund,” said Libby.
