The Maine Legislature has been especially active this year, passing several employment-related laws that affect how organizations manage their workforce. Join the Maine Credit Union League for an informative, virtual Town Hall on August 25 at 1:00 pm, covering Employment Law Compliance: New Statutes From the Legislature for 2026. About Bob Bower:
Bob Bower graduated from Colby College and the University of Maine School of Law, where he served as the Articles Editor for the Maine Law Review. Bower began his legal career at Norman, Hanson & DeTroy in Portland, Maine in 1985. He worked as a trial lawyer defending personal injury civil lawsuits early in his career. Later he focused on Labor and Employment law. Bower has served as chairman of the Firm’s Labor and Employment Law and Workers’ Compensation Practice Groups. He served as a member of the Firm’s Management Committee. He is “AV” rated by Martindale Hubbell.
In 2012, Bower was appointed by Governor LePage to the Maine Board of Civil Service Appeals and to the Maine Board of Arbitration and Conciliation. In 2014, Bower was appointed by the Governor to serve as the Primary Management Member of the Maine Labor Relations Board. In 2018, Bower was appointed Chair of the Maine Board of Civil Service Appeals. In these roles, he was a decision maker in litigated disputes between public employees; their labor unions; and state, county, and municipal employers.
Bower’s law practice is currently divided between litigated defense of various forms of employment, workers’ compensation, and labor law disputes, and advice to management regarding employment contracts, human resources issues, general employment and labor law, collective bargaining negotiations, and dispute resolution. He has lectured frequently on various employment and labor law topics.
