Attorney Christy Jones returns to conduct the League’s Collections Conference. This virtual program will cover the latest updates to laws, regulations, and rulings, as well as topics requested by Maine credit unions. Over two mornings, Christy’s presentation will include the following topics:

  • FDCPA – New rules become effective November 30, 2021. Learn how to prepare and monitor for compliance with the latest requirements.
  • Repossession Issues – We will cover sample repossession procedures, get a full understanding of UCC requirements, and cover Right to Cure letters, Notices of Sale letters, and Notice of Surplus or Deficiency letters.
  • Dealing with the Problem Member – This topic includes sovereign citizens, terminating membership, refusing membership, and members who constantly dispute credit reports.
  • Adopting an Effective Collections Mindset During a Pandemic – This is a soft skills session designed to help keep collectors from burning out during an historically stressful time.
  • Lessons Learned from Navy FCU – What did Navy FCU get wrong and what can we learn? We will talk about improper collection threats, freezing, and setting off funds, and ways to spot weaknesses in our own letters and procedures.
