Navigating the Legal Landscape: Best Practices for Collections Communication and Collection Strategies

This presentation will cover best practices for communicating with consumers, including compliance with federal law, handling common objections or issues raised by the member, and negotiating effectively with borrowers. Additionally, topics will include strategies for mitigating delinquency and reducing charge-offs. This presentation will be helpful for those who manage collection departments and for those who are actively working in a collections department, dealing with delinquent borrowers.

Bankruptcy: Guarding Your Interests and Minimizing Losses in Bankruptcy

This presentation will provide an overview of bankruptcy basics and cover effective strategies for dealing with bankruptcy consumers.  The presentation will include a discussion of what can be done with a lawyer and what can be done without a lawyer. This presentation will be valuable to those who manage collection departments or the bankruptcy process and those employees who deal with bankrupt borrowers.

About Jim Sorenson

Jim earned his Bachelor of Science degree, magna cum laude, from Liberty University in 1993 and his Juris Doctorate, high honors, from The Florida State University in 1996. Jim is a licensed attorney in both Florida and Georgia. He is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute and is past President of the Northern District Bankruptcy Bar Association. He regularly conducts seminars and workshops on collections, bankruptcy, and consumer protection issues. In addition to representing clients in state and federal court, Jim also has developed an expertise advising Credit Union clients on how to effectively manage and operate a successful collections department. 

Jim is the author of Collections is Not a Dirty Word, a book on effective and efficient collections departments. Jim won the Legal Excellence Award for Literary Distinction in November 2021.
